Preakness Stakes 2024: Just Steel Horse Racing Profile

Just Steel didn’t have the run he hoped at the Kentucky Derby, as the horse finished 17th. But under the elite tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas and champion pedigree (sired by Triple Crown winner Justify), Just Steel may have success in front of him yet. He closed at 35-1 in Preakness odds for Futures Pool No. 2. Given his disappointing showing at Churchill Downs, those odds may stick, making Just Steel a true longshot.

Below, we’ll look at everything you need to know to bet on Just Steel in the upcoming Preakness Stakes.

The Word On Just Steel

May 4: Finished 17th in a poor showing at the Kentucky Derby. Went off at 21-1. Got caught in a hot early pace and had nothing left for the stretch

Apr 27: Opened 20-1 on the morning line, running out of Post 6.

Apr. 7: Closed a 30-1, middle of the pack, in April’s Kentucky Derby futures pool following a runner-up finish in the Arkansas Derby.

Mar. 30: Went off at 32-1 in the Arkansas Derby. Sat a length off the pace for the entire run and could not close the gap from a powerful finish from Muth (2-1). Just Steel did pass a fading Timberlake (even favorite). Came in second by three lengths, but also finished ahead of the rest of the pack by at least four lengths.
