Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors is under investigation by the NBA over an alleged betting scandal, related to unusually large bets on his prop unders. The latest development shows Porter wagered millions of dollars on non-NBA sporting events at FanDuel between 2021-23, according to a new report. FanDuel did not take any wagers on NBA or college basketball games from Porter.

Porter Facing Permanent Ban From NBA

Porter reportedly placed more than 1,000 wagers at FanDuel with a VIP account. During that time, Porter was playing for the NBA G League. His betting activity stopped just before he signed with the Raptors.

The ongoing investigation, spearheaded by the NBA, has indefinitely sidelined Porter. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made it clear that Porter risks permanent banishment from the league if the investigation finds wrongdoing by him.

“I have enormous range of discipline available to me,” said Adam Silver. “It’s a cardinal sin what he’s accused of in the NBA. The ultimate extreme option I have is to ban him from the game. That’s the level of authority I have here because there’s nothing more serious.”

ESPN first reported suspicious betting activity surrounding Porter that raised suspicion among sportsbooks. Bettors were pushing thousands on Porter’s props, specifically unders for games where the Raptors forward left early and only played a few minutes, leading to those bets cashing easily.

Colorado Gaming Commission Probes Into Porter

The Colorado Gaming Commission sent a request to local sportsbooks vying for them to report if Porter had a betting account.

“We are requesting that you review all patron accounts thoroughly to identify if Jontay Porter has ever had an account with your sportsbook,” the letter, sent to all Colorado operators, read. “If so, please review Mr. Porter’s account for wagering activities on NBA-affiliated games. Note that all wagering activities by Mr. Porter on NBA-affiliated games shall be reported to the Division immediately.”

Porter’s older brother, Michael Porter Jr., plays for the Denver Nuggets and resides in Denver.
