NFL Draft Odds: Will Michigan QB JJ McCarthy Land In The Top 5?
Much of the drama has been sucked out of the top few picks in the NFL draft. NFL draft odds tell us we’ll hear Caleb Williams’ name called first (-10000 at BetMGM Sportsbook), followed by Jayden Daniels (-500) and then Drake Maye (-350). But intrigue remains, much of it surrounding JJ McCarthy NFL draft odds.
After entering draft season a distant fourth at best in consensus QB rankings, McCarthy has butted into the top-five discussion. There have even been whispers that some teams see him as a top-three QB.
Let’s take a look at some relevant JJ McCarthy draft odds and see where the markets place him prior to Thursday’s first round.

McCarthy is now solidly favored to go inside the top five. Remember that the top five picks go as follows:
- Bears
- Commanders
- Patriots
- Cardinals
- Chargers
Given that the Cardinals and Chargers are not expected to target QBs, that means JJ McCarthy draft odds implicitly suggest someone will trade up for the former Wolverine if he doesn’t go in the top three.
Sure enough, the latest mock drafts from Mel Kiper Jr., Daniel Jeremiah, and Charlie Campbell all have McCarthy going either fourth or fifth via trade. In these scenarios, the Cardinals and/or Chargers would pass on a chance to add elite receivers like Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers.
But which teams would move up to select McCarthy? Well, agreement exists on that front.

The Vikings have emerged as the clear favorite. All three of the aforementioned mocks had the Vikings as the team trading up for McCarthy. Minnesota has accumulated a store of draft capital while also allowing Kirk Cousins to walk. This has fueled rumors that the team plans to cash in said capital for its QB of the future.
The Giants are the other much-discussed QB-need team. However, speculation has swirled recently that the Giants have Maye, not McCarthy, in their crosshairs. Multiple draft prognosticators took to Twitter/X to suggest that the Giants aren’t high on McCarthy.
New England has two possible avenues to selecting McCarthy: trade down and get him while adding more draft capital to a poor roster or simply pick him third.
There hasn’t been much buzz about the Broncos making a huge trade-up. But it’s always possible McCarthy slips back to his original mid-first projection. Denver picks at No. 12.
