Butler To Phoenix Or Golden State?
With the 2025 NBA trade deadline looming, the Golden State Warriors could represent the key to the Suns acquiring Butler from the Miami Heat. Butler’s -400 odds to land elsewhere are equivalent to an 80% implied probability.
Per The Athletic, the Warriors’ path toward assisting the Suns is via an Andrew Wiggins-led trade with Miami. Butler was initially linked to Golden State, but trade rumors have dwindled. The Warriors could also be interested in Kevin Durant, which may factor in discussions between Golden State, Phoenix, and Miami.
ESPN’s Tim Bontemps noted that “there isn’t a lot of interest in acquiring Butler” around the league beyond the Suns. Still, Phoenix has struggled to find a landing spot for Bradley Beal, given his $50.2 million salary and a no-trade clause.

Butler’s Trade Antics Persist
Although Butler was set to return from a two-game suspension last week, the Heat suspended him indefinitely. It was his third suspension of January. Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Butler walked out of shootaround after learning Miami wouldn’t start him in its game against the Orlando Magic. Haywood Highsmith was inserted in his place.
On Jan. 3, Butler was suspended for seven games. The Heat considered his conduct “detrimental to the team over the course of the season, particularly the last several weeks.”
Butler’s absence began shortly after he took to the media to voice his concerns about his future. Even without Butler, the Heat remain afloat in the Eastern Conference standings, currently in seventh place.
