Jared Goff Props: Over or Under Passing Yards?

For the season, Goff averages 269.1 passing yards per game. He has gone over this number in four straight games. I think that continues this weekend against the 49ers.

For starters, the 49ers are massive spread favorites at , meaning that Goff will be operating in negative game script. In the team’s five losses in the regular season, Goff eclipsed this passing yard number in four of them, with the loss to Chicago being the lone time he didn’t. Remember, there was wind in Chicago in that game, so conditions weren’t favorable for Goff, who has notably struggled outdoors when weather has been a factor.

Another thing that could factor into this prop is the 49ers’ lack of pass rush of late. They failed to sack Jordan Love in the Divisional Playoffs last weekend, and in Week 17 (when starters were playing), they only notched one sack against Sam Howell. For reference, Howell was the most-sacked quarterback this season, getting brought down 65 times. The lone 49er that sacked him in the game? Former Raiders edge rusher Clelin Ferrell.

Making matters worse, Nick Bosa hasn’t tallied a sack since Week 15 against the Cardinals, and Chase Young has only delivered 2.5 sacks in eight games with San Fran. If the 49ers’ pass rush fails to get home against a stout Lions offensive line, Goff may be able to rip this secondary to shreds.

Although San Francisco defends the pass much better than the run in general, its pass defense has slipped of late. Since Week 15, they’ve dropped to 19th in Success Rate allowed through the air. Remember that Talanoa Hufanga, their star safety, suffered a torn ACL in Week 11 against the Buccaneers.

Furthermore, the 49ers tend to play a lot of zone-coverage concepts that Goff thrives against. With elite zone beaters such as Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St Brown, Lions receivers should spring free early and often for Goff to find.

Derek’s Bet: Jared Goff Over 255.5 Passing Yards
Best Available Line:

If the spread proves correct and Brock Purdy shakes off a miserable game against the Packers, the 49ers could get out to a nice lead and force the Lions into an aerial attack with LaPorta and St. Brown leading the way.

Best of luck betting Jared Goff props this weekend.
