When will Jamaal Williams return and be back with the Saints?

Update: Jamaal Williams has been designated to return from IR, opening up a 21 day window for him to practice and be eligible to join the active roster. It is far from a guarantee that Williams will play in this coming Thursday’s game against the Saints.

Saints fans and many fantasy football owners want to know when will Jamaal Williams return and be back on the field of play. Williams was placed on injured reserve back on September 23 due to a hamstring injury. New Orleans has been vague regarding the extent of Williams’ injury though the guess is that it is a Grade 1 or Grade 2 hamstring strain. Recovery from this type of injury can range anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks.

Williams is eligible to come back for the Saints’ Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, October 19. It is no guarantee that Williams will be ready by that time, however, particularly because of the short week. Here is a look at a timetable regarding the Saints schedule around the time Williams is eligible to return.

• Week 7 October 19: Jaguars vs. Saints
• Week 8 October 29: Saints vs. Colts
• Week 9 November 5: Bears vs. Saints
• Week 10 November 12: Saints vs. Vikings

The Saints will likely not rush Williams back due to the fact that Alvin Kamara returned to the team after his early-season suspension. Third round pick Kendre Miller has also been getting carries for the Saints in Williams’ absence.
