Jadeveon Clowney Reunites with Houston Texans

Veteran pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is coming back to the Lone Star State, reuniting with the Houston Texans, who took him with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The defensive end spent his first five seasons with the Texans, earning three Pro Bowl nods.

Moving around

Since being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, Clowney has played for six other teams. He played more than one season with only one team, the Cleveland Browns (2021-22).

Clowney signed late last season, not joining the Dallas Cowboys until mid-September, and did not see the field until the fourth game. Still, he had a solid campaign, coming one sack shy of his career high with 8.5. He added 41 tackles and 12 tackles for a loss, which was a Cowboys’ high.

While he has never had a season with double-digit sacks, Clowney has at least 8.5 in two of the last three seasons. The pass rusher has tallied 46.5 career sacks.

Houston boasts a loaded defense

Clowney will join a Texans defense that led the league last season, giving up an average of 277.2 yards per game. The Texans ranked second in scoring defense, allowing an average of 17.3 ppg.

The Houston D already boasts two great pass rushers in 2025 first-team All-Pro Will Anderson Jr. and second-team All-Pro Danielle Hunter, who combined for 27 sacks last season.

Texans offense is the issue

While Clowney joins a stacked defense, the question marks for Houston entering this season are on the offensive side of the ball.

Last season, C.J. Stroud regressed and had the worst season of his three years in the league, posting career lows in passing yards (3,041) and touchdowns (19), while missing three games due to injury.

The Texans signed running back David Montgomery, who rushed for 716 yards and eight touchdowns with the Detroit Lions last season. He will be joined in the backfield by Houston's 2025 leading rusher in Woody Marks (703 yards, two TDs), who only averaged 3.6 yards per carry.

Houston jumps in Super Bowl odds

Clowney joins an elite defense, and if Stroud can bounce back, the Texans can make some serious noise next season.
