The Houston Rockets will look to bounce back Friday night as they visit the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena. It's the best game of the NBA slate tonight, making it one to really dig into.

Detroit has been one of the best stories in the NBA this season, but my Rockets vs. Pistons predictions and NBA picks still like Houston to keep this one close and cover the number.

This is a matchup where the spread doesn’t fully line up with how live Houston can be, even in a tough spot.

The Pistons have overachieved in a massive way this season. They were expected to be on the rise, but few saw them sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference at this point in the year. Detroit has been playing with confidence, has real continuity, and looks like a team ahead of schedule in its development.

The Rockets, on the other hand, have been good, but not quite as dominant as many expected. They’ve shown flashes of being a top-tier team, but the consistency hasn’t always been there, especially over the last couple of weeks.

This line is also being shaped by circumstance. Houston is on the second night of a road back-to-back after a draining overtime loss to the 76ers last night, and that’s the kind of scheduling spot where most bettors automatically fade the road team.

Still, +4.5 gives Houston a lot of breathing room in what profiles as a competitive game. The Rockets have more shot creation than people realize, and if this turns into a late execution game, getting multiple possessions is valuable.

There’s also a fun wrinkle here with the Thompson twins going head-to-head. Amen Thompson for Houston and Ausar Thompson for Detroit are two of the brightest young players in the league, and those types of matchups usually bring an extra edge and intensity.

The interior battle is another key layer. Houston just had to deal with Joel Embiid last night, and now they immediately face another physical paint presence in Jalen Duren. That’s especially relevant with Steven Adams still out for Houston, which impacts their depth and physicality up front. Duren is an absolute force on the glass, and this game could get ugly inside.

Even with Detroit playing great basketball, this feels like too many points to cover in a game that should stay tight for most of the night. Houston could very easily even win outright.
