DraftKings announced that it is now an official partner of the 2020 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. The partnership with Major League Eating (MLE) will allow for wagering on the event for the first time in Colorado, New Jersey and New Hampshire. Hot dog contest odds for this Saturday’s event are already up at DraftKings Sportsbook.
In addition, fantasy players from anywhere in the US can participate in a free-to-play contest with $25,000 in prizes.
“The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest is an iconic US tradition that personifies American competition,” said Ezra Kucharz, the chief business officer of DraftKings. “We are proud to have partnered with Major League Eating to offer people everywhere the opportunity to engage with such a classic event.”
Hot dog contest odds
This will be the first time bettors will be able to wager on the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest at a legal US sportsbook. Odds are only available for wagering in three states as bettors in Colorado, New Jersey and New Hampshire can wager on this year’s contest.
“We are excited to have DraftKings on board this year and we’re thrilled that they’ll help bring the fun and excitement of this venerable contest to thousands of additional sports fans,” said Richard Shea, president of Major League Eating.
Here are odds for the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest:
- Men’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2020 winner: Joey Chestnut (-1250) vs. the field (+650)
- Hot dogs eaten by Joey Chestnut: Over 72.5 (-143), Under 72.5 (+110)
Early wagering at DraftKings sportsbook is showing lopsided action for the men’s competition. There’s much more money on the field versus Chestnut.

Watching the 2020 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest
Much like everything in the world today, this annual tradition will change this year. Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest usually takes place outside of the flagship restaurant in Coney Island, NY. This year the contest will take place in a private location with appropriate health and safety guidelines in place.
Shay adds, “We are fortunate to be able to conduct this event in these extraordinary and trying times. While we’ll miss the Coney Island crowd, we hope to provide a bit of levity by celebrating the Fourth with our reigning champions and the live ESPN broadcast.”
Unfortunately, there won’t be a huge crowd on hand to watch the Major League Eating contest in person. The mammoth crowd is part of what makes this event special. However, the event will still take place on television. Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest will be broadcast on ESPN beginning at 12 p.m. ET on the Fourth of July.
