FanDuel Racing: Race of the Day For Monday, July 24

Finger Lakes Race No. 8

Racing credits back for third place only applies to fields of eight or more horses for this horse racing free picks promo. There are eight entered here. If there are any late scratches, third-place bonus won’t apply but still will apply if your win bet comes in second.

Training angles may matter here. Paul Barrow, the second-leading trainer at Finger Lakes, saddles No. 2 Stormy’s in Style, the 5-1 shot. Barrow’s horses have finished first, second or third in 64 of 101 races. That’s an astounding 63%.

Anthony Ferraro, the third-leading trainer, has guided 54 of 80 entries onto the board. That’s a whopping 67% of his horses finishing first, second or third. He has No. 4 horse Shezanarticqueen.

In a FanDuel Race of the Day scenario, these are the two training chalks. So, here’s a look at the field with morning-line odds that only become official when the race begins.

Morning Line Odds

1. Big Brad Soldier (6-1)
1a. Chubachubachochoo (6-1)

Both have a string of average works. They are saddled by Jeffrey Englehart, the fourth-leading trainer with an in-the-money percentage of   53%.  If the odds drop a lot, somebody connected with the horses probably put a sizable bet on one of them.

2. Stormy’s in Style (5-1)

Barrow just got this horse and she put up a career-high 35  Beyer in the slop last time.  Probably going to uptick with him, just a matter of how much.

3. Four Quartz (20-1)

Looking for more than first win. Looking for first Beyer figure. First five races have a 0 Beyer and in the next, she was 62 lengths back when they stopped counting. It’s not an easy game.

4. Shezanarticqueen (3-1)

Last two Beyers in the mid 30’s after one with a 44. Here’s where the Daily Racing Form may help handicappers. Shows a bullet work of 36.1 for three furlongs July 11 at Finger Lakes. Maybe she gets the lead on speed-favoring track. Ferraro angle helps too.

5. Scouting Party (10-1)

The drop angle. Finished a combined 39 lengths back in two maiden special weights races. Didn’t’ belong there. Drops dramatically to low-level maiden, where she is bound to improve.

We don’t know if trainers are trying to put Scouting Party in a place she can win or they are dumping her. Either way, you’ll get a price and class relief.

6. Midnight Empress (15-1)

Similar predicament. Two races, a 0 Beyer on dirt and an 8 on turf. Drops from maiden $40,000. Connections are trying  to find out if they have a horse.

7. Real Good Vybz (5-1)

Good indeed. Three races on synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs elevated her into the 50’s Beyer range and two third-place finishes in last three races. On the flip side, is 0-for-19 and returns to Finger Lakes, where she’s done poorly. What you’re trying to figure out is whether the improvement  is related to an uptick or the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle.

8. Ma Mi Jo Dreams (4-1)

In-the-money possibility because of consistent mid 30 Beyers at Finger Lakes, which includes a 38 and second-place finish in last race at this level.

Some bettors love the tongue-in-cheek camaraderie of “I’ll Bet Anything.”

So when one of my buddies said ‘Only a nut would bet on a maiden-claiming $11,000 race,’ I said “Here’s My Pick.”

I’ll take a pop with the 4 horse, Shezanarticqueen. The class drop and bullet works project the possibility of being forwardly placed, and this field, generally speaking, does not pass horses. And I like the trainer.

Have to be concerned with possible duel from Stormy’s in Style, the 2, but will hope that his last early-speed performance was slop-induced. Only a slight chance of rain in the forecast.

Good Vybz will be an interesting play to some because of the high Beyers and weighing the Tapeta angle on recent improvement. Bettors who discount the Tapeta will get an excellent win price.

Remember that claimers take turns and there is a high volatility rate in their performances.

But also remember that anything is worth a Fin, at the track. Good luck with your FanDuel Race of the Day selection.!
