Gonzaga vs. USC Game Matchup

This tournament may prove no team can match Gonzaga in its quest to become the first undefeated champion since Indiana in 1976. If there is a team that can physically match the Zags though, it may just be USC.

USC is the second-longest team in the country, with an average height of 6’7” (per KenPom). They are one of the few teams in America that can match Gonzaga’s length and athleticism. And like the Bulldogs, the Trojans are one of only five teams in Division I that rank top 15 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. If you’re betting on USC , you’re betting on the Trojans to become just the second team this season to lose to Gonzaga by single digits.

There simply is no offensive weakness for Gonzaga. Leading scorers Jalen Suggs, Drew Timme and Corey Kispert all shoot at least 58 percent from inside the arc and are above 30 percent on three-point attempts. Fellow starter Joel Ayayi also shoots 39 percent from three. As a team, the Zags shoot 74 percent on free throws. Gonzaga is even more efficient this season than Mark Few’s last few teams that also led the nation in offensive efficiency.

The Trojans are led by versatile seven-footer and Evan Mobley. He is a huge problem for opponents, averaging almost 18 points and 10 boards in five postseason games, including the PAC-12 tournament.

If this game is close late, beware the Achilles’ heel for USC – free throw shooting. The Trojans rank outside the top 300, converting less than 65 percent from the line.
