Gonzaga vs. Baylor Game Matchup

The dream national championship game matchup for college basketball fans is set. The number one overall seed in the tournament will face the number two overall seed. The game is also a matchup of the Bulldogs’ top-ranked offensive efficiency versus the Bears’ second-ranked offensive efficiency.

Gonzaga is one win away from the first undefeated season since Indiana in 1976. Despite Baylor blowing out Houston in the national semifinal, and Gonzaga surviving UCLA in overtime on Jalen Suggs’ now immortal banked-in three, the Zags sit at in the spread.

If the matchup on paper plays out, get ready for an offensive symphony. Gonzaga features the best two-point offense in the nation. The Bulldogs have failed to reach 80 points just three times this season, but none of those three times were against their toughest opponents. In their biggest games, they have shined brightest.

Leading scorers Jalen Suggs, Drew Timme and Corey Kispert all shoot at least 58% on two-pointers. Suggs and Kispert shoot 33% and 45% from three, respectively. Fellow starter Joel Ayayi also shoots 39% from outside. As a team, the Zags shoot 74% on free throws.

Not to be outdone, Baylor ranks first in the nation in three-point offense, shooting 41% from outside. Jared Butler, Matthew Mayer, Davion Mitchell and Adam Flager all shoot better than 40% from beyond the arc. MaCio Teague shoots 39%.

The one weakness in this matchup could be Baylor’s propensity to allow offensive rebounds. They rank 280th in offensive rebounding percentage allowed (per KenPom). Gonzaga sits top 100 in offensive rebounding.

Sit back. Grab your favorite drink. And enjoy. This national championship has the potential to be one of the best matchups in March Madness history.
