FINDING VALUE IN GOLF DFS PICKS: Valspar Championship

To identify “value” any given week on the PGA Tour, I find it’s best first to understand the consensus key stat profile, then take a stance on the elements of the tournament that may go overlooked. At the Valspar Championship, Course History, SG: APP, and recent form on the Florida swing are consensus key areas factored into each player’s price.

From a sleeper perspective, I will take a stance on the importance of long-iron approach play (Prox: 175+) and SG: Putting on courses with similar dormant, overseeded Bermuda as opportunities to buy low on players who may not otherwise fit consensus trends. I’m leaning on that stance to differentiate my player pool and find value for this week’s tournament.

Below, find my favorite golf DFS picks and longshots for the 2025 Valspar Championship. Stats were pulled across the last 36 rounds unless otherwise noted. Each player is listed with the best price in Valspar Championship odds.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout

If I could draw up one course for Christiaan Bezuidenhout to pick up his first career tour win, it would look a whole lot like Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead course. The South African has played some of the best golf of his career on Bermuda greens, ranking in the top five in SG: Putting over the last 24 rounds and in the top 20 in SG: Putting on Bermuda greens. Though far from a birdie-fest, the Valspar Championship has a long history of rewarding putting specialists who can separate with the flat stick. Peter Malnati, Sam Burns, and Adam Hadwin’s wins over recent years provide.

Driver is not the strong point of Bezuidenhout’s game, but Innisbrook often takes that club out of your hands with its many forced layups off the tee. He has excelled in these positional types of venues, ranking No. 4 in Comp Course History. Fresh off a T9 finish at this event last year, Bezuidenhout is precisely the profile of player I’m looking to target at the Valspar Championship, given his ability to keep the ball in play and lean on his Short Game as a strength.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen +8000

We may need to remember the name Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. It’s never wise to overreact to any performance in an opposite-field event like the Puerto Rico Open. But a solo second in your first tour start is tough to ignore. Based on the strokes gained data, the 25-year-old from Denmark has shown a very polished all-around game in his starts across the DP World Tour and Champions Tour.

He earned his way onto the DP World Tour last season after a standout Champions Tour season that included three wins over six months. Since playing a full professional schedule, Neergaard-Petersen has transitioned seamlessly with five top-20 finishes over his first seven starts across the DP World Tour and PGA Tour. It remains to be seen how Neergaard-Petersen’s game stacks up against the PGA Tour’s best. But all early indications seem to point to him as the next young, rising star out of Europe.

Nicolai Hojgaard

There are so many Scandinavian players in this week’s field that it’s easy to lose count. There are even two Hojgaards. I go back and forth each week about which twin brothers I prefer. But this week, I’m siding with Nicolai. The 2023 Ryder Cupper is rounding into form now as he ranks top-12 in SG: TOT (L36), SG: T2G, SG: APP, and SG: Ball Striking. His putting has also started to heat up, as he ranks No. 18 in SG: Putting over the last 36 rounds.

Known as more of a bomber, I like this style of golf course for Hojgaard. He can lean on his woods and long irons for positional layups off the tee and set him up to separate with approach from long range, where he is best (No. 10 Prox: 175+). Making his Valspar Championship debut, this is an excellent price for Hojgaard, who enters with three career DP World Tour wins under his belt.

Andrew Novak

After a blazing start to the 2025 season, Novak’s hit a bit of a speed bump in the Florida swing. That’s a surprise considering his local Bermuda ties, so I expect him to right the ship soon and return to the form he displayed on the West Coast swing, where he posted three top-15 finishes. Novak continues to improve at the Valspar, finishing T27 and T17 over his last two appearances.

We should continue to expect Novak’s game to translate well here in 2025. His strengths are his long-iron approach play and short game on and around Bermuda greens. He ranks in the top five in Scrambling and SG: ARG, which should come in handy if winds pick up as severely as expected.

Danny Willett

I usually choose to feature four value players each week. I couldn’t help but throw a bonus pick in for Danny Willett. At the end of the day, how bad can 750-1 odds be for a former Masters champion still in his prime golf years? Willett is just three starts removed from a T9 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, another challenging venue emphasizing Scrambling and Bogey Avoidance. And while his game is far from polished at the moment, four top-40 finishes over his last six starts show far better form than 2024 Valspar winner Peter Malnati had in.

Willett’s strengths are in his short game, which will be accentuated in difficult weather conditions this week. At these odds, he is a true “no-risk” outright play and will also be a top-40 placement consideration for me.

Best of luck if you bet or play these golf DFS picks for the 2025 Valspar Championship!
