Golf DFS Picks: 4 Potential Longshots & PGA TOUR Sleepers For THE PLAYERS Championship
From one Signature Event to another, the PGA TOUR remains stationed in the Sunshine State, as the Florida Swing continues on to TPC Sawgrass for one of the biggest events of the year in golf, the 2024 PLAYERS Championship. It is one of the deepest fields of the season, with so much volatility year-to-year. Therefore, it’s an ideal week to search for diamonds in the rough for your PGA TOUR betting and golf DFS picks.

TPC SAWGRASS COURSE INTRODUCTION
TPC Sawgrass stands at 7,256 yards as a par-72 with the standard mix of four par-3s, 10 par-4s, and four par-5s. That’s not a ton of length for the best players on the PGA TOUR to face, especially after last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, one of the longest venues on the PGA TOUR. The shorter yardage will spell more forced layups off the tee and remove any advantage the longer hitters may bring to a longer layout.
As Pete Dye’s signature design, TPC Sawgrass rewards precise ball striking and crafty touch around the greens, as players will be tasked to avoid threatening water hazards of 17 holes, quirky bunkering, and tight undulated runoffs around the green. Elite approach players with reliable touch around the greens and seasoned veterans with some proven past results are the most common profiles of players to find success at TPC Sawgrass over the years.
Course History has not proven very repeatable at this event, as only four players in the field have finished top-25 in each of the last two PLAYERS Championships. With that in mind, there’s an opportunity to buy low on low-priced players who suit a positional risk-reward course well.

FINDING VALUE IN GOLF DFS PICKS: THE PLAYERS
To identify “value” any given week on the PGA TOUR, I find it’s best first to understand the consensus key stat profile, then take a stance on the elements of the tournament that may go overlooked. At THE PLAYERS, Recent Form, SG: APP, and history in difficult, high–stakes conditions are consensus key areas factored into each player’s price.
From a sleeper perspective, I will take a stance on the importance of Comp Course History and SG: Ball Striking on comparable positional courses as opportunities to buy low on players who may not otherwise fit consensus trends. Course History has not been very predictive at TPC Sawgrass either, offering an opportunity to find value in those who have not delivered their best results at THE PLAYERS yet. I’m leaning on that stance to differentiate my player pool and find value for this week’s tournament.

Keegan Bradley (, $7,900)
The Jupiter resident has decorated history when it comes to performance in the Sunshine State, as Keegan ranks No. 6 in terms of total strokes gained on the Florida Swing over the last 40 ranks. From a betting perspective, he’s the only player you’ll find available beyond 35-1 odds this week, so naturally, Keegan has once again caught my eye for THE PLAYERS Championship.
It’s been a good start to 2024 for Keegan, especially on positional courses, as he’s finished T2 and T11 at the Sony Open and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. With three top-15 finishes over his last five trips to TPC Sawgrass, Keegan’s no stranger to contending on this stage. He came closest in 2022, finishing T5, and continues to show that Bermuda courses with emphasis on accurate ball striking are best suited for his game.

Erik van Rooyen (, $7,300)
Erik van Rooyen doesn’t have the name brand or career victory resume of a star on TOUR, but in 2024, he has put together the statistical profile of one. The South African has not looked back since winning the Worldwide Technology Championship in November, sustaining a stretch of nine top-25s over his last 11 starts.
While one could argue he’s in the midst of the best stretch of form of his veteran career, van Rooyen has shown flashes of a course fit at TPC Sawgrass in the past, finishing T13 here in his only prior start in 2022, where he led the field in SG: APP. A Florida resident, van Rooyen has looked sharp through the first two legs of the Florida Swing and ranks No. 12 overall in my model this week thanks to his sustained run of consistent ball-striking.
Nick Taylor (, $6,900)
TPC Scottsdale may not be a perfect comp for TPC Sawgrass, but it draws many parallels in terms of crossover success, with Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler, and Webb Simpson each picking up wins at both courses within the last decade. While both TPC layouts feature constant risk-reward holes with lateral hazards threatening throughout, the electric crowd atmosphere across these two events is unmatched by any other PGA TOUR event.
Now a four-time winner on the PGA TOUR after his WM Phoenix Open victory in February, Taylor has blossomed as one of coldest closers on TOUR, proven capable of sinking clutch putt after clutch putt in his two latest wins over the last nine months. Still trending on the heels of a T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Taylor will look to improve on a career-best T16 showing at THE PLAYERS back in 2019.
Matthieu Pavon (, $6,700)
The jury is still out for me as to whether Matthieu Pavon is a legitimate weekly threat coming over from the DP World Tour or just in the midst of a sustained heater. It still feels to me like the latter, but his price has drifted far enough down the list to justify chasing the upside of the former.
The Farmers Insurance Open champion proved capable of stepping up on the big stage against a formidable field once already this season, which is more than most surrounding him in this price range can say. But Pavon has been far more than a one-week wonder. Over his last 13 starts, he’s posted eight top-15s, two wins, and just one missed cut between the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR. Though making his first PLAYERS Championship start this week, debutants have not been immune from finding success, and his red-hot recent form certainly doesn’t hurt those chances.
Best of luck if you bet or play this golf DFS picks for the 2024 PLAYERS Championship!
