Golf DFS Picks: 3 Potential Longshots & PGA TOUR Sleepers For 2024 Genesis Invitational
The West Coast swing gets one last stand as we return to California for the second Signature Event over the last four weeks. This time, it’s the famed Riviera Country Club taking center stage, back to host the 2024 Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles. Golf betting longshots continue an unprecedented run to start the 2024 season, as each of the first six winners this year has opened at pre-tournament odds of 100-1 or longer. Nick Taylor was featured in this article at 175-1 pre-tournament odds before his WM Phoenix Open victory last week, so we’ll look to keep that momentum going in search of yet another winner in this week’s golf DFS picks column.
If there were ever a setup to buck the trend of longshot winners, one would have to think it would come this week. This Signature Event features a limited field of just 70 players, and each of the top-six favorites will enter in great form with proven past success at Riviera CC. Considering this event has a long history of rewarding Major-contenders who thrive in difficult scoring conditions, I won’t have much exposure to longshots on my betting card, but identifying the right sleepers is still crucial for fantasy in weeks like these. genesis invitational INTRODUCTION
Despite falling at just over 7,300 yards, Riviera CC hasn’t needed length to challenge the best players in the world. Instead, it relies on angled doglegs, narrow fairways, and firm & fast Poa greens with diverse greenside hazards to challenge the field’s all-around game. It serves as a great prep for The Masters and the rest of the Major swing with these unique attributes. It also tends to reward creative shot-makers who perform under pressure.

FINDING VALUE IN GOLF DFS PICKS: Genesis Invitational
To identify “value” any given week on the PGA TOUR, I find it’s best first to understand the consensus key stat profile, then take a stance on the elements of the tournament that may go overlooked. At the Genesis Invitational, Course History, Recent Form, and Bogey Avoidance in comparable difficult scoring conditions are consensus key areas factored into each player’s price.
From a sleeper perspective, I will take a stance on the importance of Proximity from 150-200 yards, Approach Proximity from the Rough, and Scrambling from the Rough as key areas to differentiate my player pool and find value for this week’s tournament.
Below, find my favorite golf DFS picks and longshots for the 2024 Genesis Invitational. Stats were pulled across the last 36 rounds unless otherwise noted. Each player is listed with the best price in Genesis Invitational odds.

Kurt Kitayama (, $6,900)
A California native, Kitayama may not be the perfect fit for Riviera CC, but he checks too many boxes for me to ignore in a limited field so starved for value beyond the favorites. Kitayama has gotten off to a hot start to begin the new year, currently riding a streak of six consecutive top-40s. That form culminated in a strong T8 finish at last week’s MW Phoenix Open, his best result since winning the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Kitayama showed that he is up to the task of beating the best in the world in difficult conditions at the API last year, so it’s encouraging to see him continue to ride this hot form. Over the last 12 rounds, Kitayama ranks No. 9 in SG: T2G.
Profiling as a bomber with a knack for getting up-and-down around the greens (top-20 in Driving Distance, Scrambling, and SG: ARG), Kitayama’s game sets up well for a setup like Riviera’s, which features a high concentration of long par-4s and very low Greens In Regulation percentage. At this price, Kitayama’s current form and stat profile make for a relatively high floor in this homecoming event.

Luke List (, $6,600)
A year ago, Luke List lapped the Genesis Invitational field in SG: Ball Striking, gaining a whopping 13 strokes with his driving and irons. Unfortunately, he only had a modest T29 finish to show for it, as he lost more than nine strokes with his short game. While we should never expect anything from Luke List on the greens, I can’t help but go back to a player with this high of a ball-striking ceiling on a course that demands such a high level of ball striking from the field. And despite all his putting woes, List has still managed to gain strokes, putting in three of his last six starts.
List is plenty familiar with Riviera CC by now, as he’s set to make his ninth career appearance this week. Over his career, he’s balanced five top-30 finishes with three missed cuts. That’s a vintage boom-or-bust stat line for List, but few others in this price range can compare to that many years of past success. Ranking top-30 in all non-putting categories in my model this week, List is a go-to value play for me in fantasy formats.

Editor’s Note
Kevin Yu (, $6,200)
One of the most talented ball-strikers in this loaded field, I’m comfortable taking a leap of faith in the absence of proven course history in this spot for Yu. The Arizona State alumni will be looking for a bounce back after a disappointing missed cut at home in last week’s WM Phoenix Open, but it may not be the worst thing to escape the inclement Arizona weather for a little extra practice time.
Ranking No. 4 in SG: OTT, Yu is looking to follow in the footsteps of other elite drivers who have leaned primarily on that skill set to find repeated success at Riviera CC. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and Dustin Johnson highlight the list of long and accurate drivers who have proven best equipped to navigate Riviera CC, but we’ve also seen less polished top-tier drivers like Cameron Young, Joaquin Niemann, and Keith Mitchell carry their drivers to early success at the Genesis Invitational.
With two top-10s over his last four starts – including a T6 in comparable conditions at the Farmers Insurance Open – Yu has the ball-striking chops to chase his third top-10 in California this season.
Best of luck if you bet or play this golf DFS picks for the Genesis Invitational!
