But that changed when Kuminga was officially signed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract this week. That domino finally falling opened the floodgates, and shortly after, the Warriors signed four veterans: Al Horford, Gary Payton II, De’Anthony Melton, and Seth Curry.

For Golden State, the importance here goes beyond names on paper. Before the Kuminga deal was resolved, they had just nine players under contract — not even enough to field a proper training camp roster, let alone enter the regular season. Getting Kuminga done allowed them to lock in commitments they had been holding onto and add real depth.

De’Anthony Melton is coming off a significant injury, but has been a reliable contributor as a two-way reserve when healthy. And Seth Curry — while not a game-changer at this point in his career — brings shooting off the bench and, of course, gets to play alongside his brother Steph.

What may matter most isn’t just the on-court fit of these players but the stability the Warriors finally have with Kuminga under contract.
