BetMGM Affected By Global IT Outage, Reports Temporary Issues
BetMGM has reported they are experiencing temporary issues due to the global IT outage. This outage has affected airlines, banks, shops, broadcasts, and now at least one major sports betting operator in BetMGM. The sportsbook operator has informed fans via its X account that they are working to resolve the issue.
BetMGM Issues Caused By Global Outage
The outage is linked to the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike and is caused by a software update. BetMGM customers have been unable to access the app or sign in to their betting accounts. Users on X have reported issues with the BetMGM app for hours.
There is no announced timeline for resolving the issues. BetMGM has stated that the company will alert customers when the app is up and running.
BetMGM Also Fined For Violations In Tennessee
This has been a rough few hours for the popular sports betting app. BetMGM was also one of three Tennessee sportsbooks fined for violating Tennessee regulations. Tennessee officials fined BetMGM the largest amount, $25,000. Action 24/7 and ESPN Bet received fines of $18,000 and $12,000, respectively.
BetMGM’s violation came from allowing bettors to wager on prohibited betting lines. Tennessee does not allow operators to offer odds on injuries or penalties. BetMGM accepted wagers on penalties, leading to the fine issued by the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council.
Action 24/7 received its fine for allowing self-excluded bettors to deposit a wager on its betting app. ESPN Bet was fined for failing to self-exclude a bettor and also for marketing to patrons on the self-excluded list.
BetMGM also recently received a fine of $2,500 in Indiana in June due to technical issues. These issues allowed players on the self-exclusion list to access betting lines and wager. BetMGM received the fine along with Fanatics Sportsbook for this issue.
