There’s rarely a dull moment in the NFL betting markets — even in the preseason. That notion came to fruition once again, as Steelers wide receiver George Pickens saw his 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds dip dramatically over the weekend. Additional details are below.

George Pickens’ Favorable Debut

Considering Pickens was selected at No. 52 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, his Rookie of the Year odds opened fairly reasonably (+5000). But the Georgia product shined against the Seahawks’ backup defensive backs on Saturday, tallying three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Moreover, he accrued Pro Football Focus’ highest offensive rookie rating (91.2) from Saturday’s games in the process.

As a result, Pickens entrenched himself as the favorite at PointsBet Sportsbook (+700) while sitting in a tie for the second-shortest odds on DraftKings (+1000) and BetMGM (+1000), respectively.

Keep in mind that betting market overreactions are conventional. While Chet Holmgren was picked No. 2 overall in the 2022 draft, his NBA Rookie of the Year odds whirled past Paolo Banchero after his first Summer League game. Banchero (+300) quickly reclaimed the top spot on the odds board, though.

On top of that, Pickens will be competing for targets with a pair of established weapons in Dionate Johnson and Chase Claypool. Pittsburgh’s signal callers aren’t anyone to brag about, either, as duck-tosser Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and fellow rookie Kenny Pickett will compete for snaps.

Be sure to monitor Packers’ Romeo Doubs, too, as he represents another rookie wideout who’s climbed up the odds board. Despite opening at +10000, Doubs saw his price tag shorten to as low as +1400 after nabbing three grabs for 43 yards and a score in his preseason debut against the 49ers. His path to developing into a consistent weapon for Aaron Rodgers appears to be more viable.
