New York Mets fans everywhere broke into social media euphoria the morning of Opening Day, with the added excitement of shortstop Francisco Lindor becoming one of the richest MLB players. He reportedly signed a 10-year, $340 million contract.

Sportsbooks can offer us a glimpse into whether the highest-paid players in baseball are worth the money.

Lindor is certainly in the mix to win NL MVP, but he is not the favorite despite his contract. The shortstop opens the season outside the top-five betting favorites to lead the majors in hits at . He’s also outside the top-10 favorites on Opening Day to lead all of baseball in runs scored at .
