Fernando Tatis when will be back return injury update

Fernando Tatis is one of the top players in MLB when healthy. Unfortunately for Tatis, the Padres, and fantasy baseball owners of the San Diego slugger – “when healthy” has become an ugly caveat. Tatis missed 32 games last season and has now missed the first month of the 2022 MLB campaign. So when will Fernando Tatis be back and return to the field for the Padres? We will answer that question below and also take a look at San Diego Padres betting odds.

When will Fernando Tatis be back, return to the Padres?

It has mostly been quiet on the when will Fernando Tatis be back and return to the field front. The latest injury update comes from Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, who reported on May 5 that Tatis has not yet been able to swing a bat due to his wrist issue.

Tatis did get some infield work in back in mid-April as he “simulated fielding ground balls and made throws,” according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.

The Padres shortstop suffered a scaphoid fracture during the off-season and had surgery on his left wrist on March 16. Just over two months was the recovery timetable at that time. That is certainly a “best case scenario” timeline as three months is the typical period of recovery for a scaphoid fracture, according to ClevelandClinic.org.

Padres odds

The Padres will surely treat Tatis’ potential return with the utmost caution given that he is the face of their franchise. Pencil in Tatis to be back for the Padres in early to mid-June. Here is a look at the San Diego schedule around that time.

  • Week of June 6: Mets at Padres, Rockies at Padres
  • Week of June 13: Padres at Cubs, Padres at Rockies
  • Week of June 20: Diamondbacks at Padres, Phillies at Padres

The Padres got off to a strong start without Tatis as they were 17-9 through the first month of the season. They are currently to win the World Series and are to win the loaded NL West.
