How does Daily Fantasy Sports work at DraftKings?
Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) at DraftKings follows a contest-based format where you are allocated a fictional budget of $50,000 to assemble your own team. It cuts across multiple sports and tournaments, including the NFL, NBA, PGA, MLB, NHL, MMA, and NASCAR, allowing you to find options that appeal to you.
Every athlete receives a specific salary range, based on their actual performance. When including these players, you must pay attention to the salary cap, as you cannot go over your assigned fictional budget. Your goal is to create a balanced lineup, after which you will get points based on the real performances of the players you selected.
The scoring system varies from contest to contest. However, many revolve around getting points and ranking in one of the top positions. You receive a reward if your lineup gets you the most points by the end of the contest. With your winnings, you can play more contests or simply cash out.
Different types of DFS contests at DraftKings
One of the best parts of DraftKings Daily Fantasy Sports is the availability of multiple contest types, including the following:
- Single Stats: Draft three players and compete to see which of them can get the most single stats.
- Casual: These contests are open to players who have participated in 50 contests or more but do not have an experience badge.
- Head-to-Head: In these contests, you face off against a single opponent and win when you score higher.
- In-game showdowns: Fantasy contests that are specifically for the second half and overtime of a single game.
- Flash draft: You make drafts during a live sports event.
Other features of the DFS platform
DraftKings went the extra mile by providing an interactive section called "DraftKings Social." From here, you can connect with other like-minded players, interact with friends, and share helpful tips.
In addition to this, there are Experience Badges, which I mentioned earlier. These are markets that show you the level of players, so you know who you're playing with. You get these badges when you have achieved specific milestones on the platform. As an owner of an Experience Badge, you won't be able to participate in Beginner or Casual contests.
DraftKings Sportsbook welcome bonus

The usability, look, and feel of the DraftKings website
If there is one word to use when describing the website’s interface, it would be “excellent.” The platform features a vibrant theme and a straightforward layout that makes it easy for you to navigate. At first glance, you can see the most essential tabs, including the list of DFS sports, contests, and the deposit icon.
Every page loads quickly, provided you have a solid internet connection. However, the most impressive thing about the platform is the option to switch from light to dark mode and vice versa. For your first launch, the site’s theme is set to that of your OS. Since I was using a dark theme, the website automatically displayed in dark mode. To change it, you simply click on the accounts icon, select “settings,” and turn off the toggle button.
DraftKings' performance on mobile devices
The DraftKings Fantasy app has a 4.7/5 rating on Google Play and 4.8/5 on the Apple Store. Its high score made sense when I downloaded the application and tried it for myself. For starters, the application is lightweight, taking only a few seconds for you to download.
In terms of layout, everything is neatly placed where you can find it without jumping through hoops. Like the website, it features a dark and light mode that you can switch between through your account section. You can also turn on notifications and get inside information about the brand’s offerings even when you’re not logged in.
During my DraftKings DFS review, I loaded the website on my mobile browser to check its compatibility with mobile devices. Unsurprisingly, the platform adjusted to my smaller screen. So, even if you do not want to download anything, you can easily play on the website via your mobile browser.
While the mobile web version gets a good rating, it’s not as high as the one I'll give the DFS app. That’s because the application integrates better on your smartphone and offers additional customization options, such as a notification feature.
Reliable payment methods for deposits and withdrawals
Depositing and withdrawing from the DraftKings Fantasy platform is easy, thanks to the availability of multiple well-known and reliable payment methods. You have the following for deposits:
| Payment method | Minimum deposit |
|---|---|
| Apple Pay | $5 |
| Bank Wire Transfer | $100 |
| Cash at Cage/Retail Stores | $5 |
| Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) | $5 |
| DraftKings Gift Card | $5 |
| Electronic Gift Card | $5 |
| Online banking | $5 |
| PayPal | $5 |
| Venmo | $5 |
For withdrawals, the available payment methods are identical to those you will find for deposits, but fewer. Here’s a list of the options you can use to withdraw your winnings from the DraftKings Fantasy section:
| Payment method | Minimum/Maximum withdrawal |
|---|---|
| PayPal | $1/$60,000 |
| Debit card | $1/$25,000 |
| Venmo | $1/$20,000 |
| Trustly | $1/$100,000 |
| Apple Pay | $1/$25,000 |
| Checks | $15/$50,000 |
| Bank Wire | $20,000/ no maximum |
The DFS operator processes deposits instantly, while withdrawals can take up to 24 hours. Note that the time it takes for you to get your winnings will depend on the payment method. For instance, it can take only a few hours extra with PayPal, but up to 3 business days with debit cards.
Customer service is available around the clock
DraftKings is designed to make it easy to find everything you need on the website/app, but if you ever need assistance, a dedicated customer team is available to help. You can contact them through live chat or email. Both are available around the clock, but the live chat is the most efficient option, based on my experience.
With live chat, you can connect to real agents who are knowledgeable and quick to respond. Email is a decent alternative, but it can take up to five hours for you to receive a response. Better still, you can visit the Help Center to see if you can find answers to your questions.

License and security — what makes DraftKings safe
DraftKings has been around since 2012. This is not as long as some other reputable brands, but it is still long enough to be able to prove its worth in the industry. It is permitted to offer its DFS services in most US states, the only exceptions being the following:
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Montana
- Nevada
- Oregon
- Washington
As a legitimate platform, DraftKings requires you to complete KYC verification after signing up. It also has clear terms and uses SSL encryption to protect your personal and financial details. So, if you’re wondering if the DraftKings Fantasy platform is safe, the answer is yes.
The DraftKings Dynasty Rewards Program
Dynasty calls its rewards program the "Dynasty Rewards." You're automatically part of it when you create an account to use any of DraftKings' offerings, including Daily Fantasy Sports. Whenever you enter paid contests, you receive Crowns and Tier Credits.
You can exchange Crowns for DK dollars (the brand's exclusive bonus credit) and other bonuses in the DK Shop. Meanwhile, your Tier Credits contribute towards your level in the program. The higher your level in the rewards program, the better your potential bonuses.
Other promotions for DFS players
While I did not find any other standard promotions, I ran into a few tournaments for specific sports. These tourneys also have prize pools, which you can win a share of after meeting specific requirements.
Like other tournaments I've seen on similar DFS platforms, these DraftKings options were available for only a limited time frame. That said, visit the Promos section from time to time to see if any special, limited-time offers are available for you to claim.
Final verdict after my DraftKings review
From this DraftKings Daily Fantasy Sports review, you can see that the platform checks all the right boxes. It allows you to assemble teams for a variety of sports, ranging from soccer to American football.
The availability of multiple contests is another plus, as it provides you with more options to engage in. Other highlights include the welcome bonus, recurring tournaments, high-end security, and 24/7 customer support.
You can test the brand’s DFS offerings yourself. As long as you’re in any of the 40+ US states where it operates, you can register and join the fun. Simply click the DraftKings banners on this page to visit the DFS platform and sign up.
