OHIO MARCH MADNESS TEAMS
While Ohio State finished the season on a solid note, its loss to Purdue in the Big 10 semifinals ended the Buckeyes’ hopes. Cincinnati and Toledo also failed to qualify, both of whom harbored March Madness aspirations heading into the year.
However, 13-seed Kent State won the MAC conference tournament championship and faces 4-seed Indiana.
Oddsmakers don’t give the idea of the National Championship coming back to Ohio much credence. Xavier is the only team from the state among the top 40 in the March Madness odds, and the Musketeers’ odds carry just a tiny win probability.
Only three Ohio teams made the tournament in the past two seasons. In 2022, Ohio State, Akron, and Wright State qualified. In the 2021 edition, Ohio State, Cleveland State, and Ohio made the field. And that was an increase from 2019 when only Ohio State and Cincinnati reached the NCAA Tournament. The last time four teams from the state qualified were in 2018 when Ohio State, Cincinnati, Wright State, and Xavier all made it.
