CARDINALS VS GIANTS, 9:45 P.M. ET
Joc Pederson
With wind expected to be blowing 18 mph out to center field at Oracle Park at first pitch, I wanted to include a player from this game. Enter Joc Pederson. Pederson recently came off an IL stint where he had wrist inflammation, and this game sets up as a great opportunity for the veteran to club one out. The sample size for Pederson’s 2023 season is small due to his injury, but there’s a lot to like about the results so far. Pederson’s hard-hit rate is up from last year, as well as his barrel rate, average launch angle, and exit velocity.
The Giants will be going up against Cardinals starter Jake Woodford, who is off to a rocky start to the season. Woodford has seen his stuff + take a dip since last season. As a result, he has yielded six home runs in less than 20 innings pitched. This doesn’t bode well for the Cardinals, as the Giants are elite against right-handed pithing, boasting the third highest slugging and fourth highest wRC+ so far this season.
RANGERS VS. REDS, 6:40 P.M. ET
Tyler Stephenson
Although he doesn’t have a homer yet this year, I’ll be rolling with Tyler Stephenson for my second option. Stephenson has admittedly gotten off to a slow start at the plate, but advanced metrics would suggest the offense is coming. His hard-hit rate is up a whopping 13.2% from last year. Combine that with an increased launch angle and a higher barrel rate, Stephenson is bound to start hitting the ball out soon.
He’ll be opposed by the Rangers lefty Martin Perez. Perez’s stuff + has dropped this year and as a result his numbers haven’t been good. His hard-hit rate allowed is up over 5%, and his opponents’ barrel rate has increased from last year. In particular, Perez has struggled on the road. In three road starts, he has an ERA of 4.02 and has yielded four home runs.
If you needed more of a reason to back Stephenson, his slugging at Great American Ballpark sits at an eye-popping +490.
Jonah Heim
I’ll be staying in the Rangers vs. Reds game for my final selection today and rolling with Heim. Heim is a player that has made stead and consistent progress in this Rangers lineup. His fly ball rate in 2021 was a mere 24.2%. Last year, he increased that rate to 30.8%, and early this year his fly ball rate sits at 36.4%. Additionally, his hard-hit rate is up over 10% from a season ago, and his barrel rate has nearly double since last year. He’s a fantastic option for a Rangers team that mashes right-handed pitching. The Rangers boast the third highest wRC+ against righties and sit at No. 5 in slugging vs righties. Heim himself has already launched three home runs against right-handed pitchers this season.
The Rangers will be opposed by right-hander Luke Weaver for the Reds. Weaver was crushed by the Pirates in his sole outing of the season five days ago. He allowed three barreled balls, two of which were home runs. His hard-hit rate for the game was an alarming 69.2%.
FANDUEL DINGER TUESDAY CONCLUSION
I’ll be rolling with Heim for my Dinger Tuesday selection this week. The matchup is favorable for the Rangers lineup and Great American Ballpark is one of the most hitter friendly parks in the league. Couple that with the wind blowing out and the high total set for the Over/Under, this game checks a lot of boxes. Best of luck on your own FanDuel Dinger Tuesday bets!
