The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) approved FanDuel Sportsbook and Barstool Sportsbook to launch in the Buckeye State. These operators will go live on January 1, 2022. Both operators were granted these licenses during the Wednesday, Oct. 19 meeting. This is only the beginning of announcements coming as the Ohio sports betting market nears its launch.
Sportsbooks Prepare For Launch
The OCCC approved these operators as mobile management service providers. Essentially, both sportsbooks are able to offer odds on their mobile betting apps.
FanDuel gained market access through its partnership with Belterra Park. Barstool Sportsbook gains its market access thanks to Penn National’s partnership with Hollywood Casino Columbus. Penn National is the parent company of Barstool Sportsbook.
FanDuel has already begun accepting registrations and offering pre-live promotions for Ohio residents. These promotions will allow locals to benefit greatly once the market is live. FanDuel is gearing up to become a market leader in Ohio, the way it is in other sports betting states.
Will FanDuel Claim The Top Spot In Ohio?
The titular sportsbook is currently the biggest betting entity in markets like New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. FanDuel was also the first sportsbook to report a profitable quarter in 2022. Adding Ohio’s soon-to-be bubbling market to its catalog should see even more growth for FanDuel.
“Q2 profitability was a function of the player values [being] incredibly strong,” said Amy Howe, CEO of FanDuel to Yahoo Finance Live. “And what we’re seeing candidly coming out of the Super Bowl, is if you look at the relationship between our player values and customer acquisition costs, that formula was great.”
Gaining its betting license from the OCCC ensures that FanDuel will be among the first sportsbooks available to residents on launch. This allows the company to carve out a strong base in Ohio. This, in addition to FanDuel’s name and brand recognition, will easily see the operator dominate early in Ohio.
FanDuel will likely become the biggest sportsbook in the Buckeye State following the launch. There is a lot of competition in the market, but FanDuel is no stranger to this.
