Texans vs. Jets Betting Preview
If you’ve been living under a rock, the Jets are frauds.
They rank No. 14 in defensive EPA, a far cry from the top-five unit of 2023 and top-six group when they fired Robert Saleh, their head coach and defensive mastermind, earlier this season.
Since reemerging from London, the Jets rank No. 25 in defensive EPA and 19th in success rate. Granted, they’ve played Josh Allen, but the other two matchups came against Russell Wilson in his season debut and a combination of Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett.
Among QBs to take 100 snaps this season, Aaron Rodgers is up to No. 20 in EPA per dropback but still No. 26 in success rate. He ranks No. 32 among eligible QBs by completion percentage over expectation (CPOE). In layman’s terms, he’s highly inaccurate despite mostly being a check-down artist at this stage in his career.
Are The Texans Good?
I don’t know. Their point differential (+9) isn’t convincing. C.J. Stroud has essentially been as below-average as Rodgers this year (No. 22 by EPA, No. 25 by success rate). To date, six of Houston’s eight games have been one score, and they’re 5-1 in them. That is traditionally a huge sign of incoming regression.
Last year’s Eagles and the 2022 Vikings proved that “knowing how to win” isn’t real. But the Texans are playing the Jets. They’re good enough to beat the Jets.
Moreover, Houston’s defense ranks No. 8 by EPA and is the best in the league in terms of success rate. Those metrics are likely enough against this version of Rodgers.
This line makes no sense because it’s misreading the Jets. The market is treating the Texans like a good team, not a great one, more in line with their point differential and not their record. This is sensible. But that’s also assuming the Jets are better than a 2-6 team. They’re not. That’s the whole problem. They’re glitzy and present big names, but they’re a flawed team with an old, washed QB who wasn’t very good his last season in Green Bay.
Best of luck with how you decide to use this Fanatics Sportsbook promo!
