Dutch Grand Prix F1 odds

Formula 1 heads to Zandvoort for the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix, a home race for championship leader Max Verstappen, who is expected to win another one this weekend if you look at Dutch Grand Prix odds.

Although Verstappen suffered a gearbox issue that took him out of FP1, he remains the favorite to win the race, according to the latest F1 betting odds.

Verstappen Suffers Gearbox Issue At Home Race

Max Verstappen’s home-race weekend didn’t start out exactly as planned. The driver suffered an apparent gearbox issue that took him out of the session after just a few laps.

Things didn’t bode so well for his teammate either. Perez went wide at Turn 9, just missed the wall, and ended up securing seventh for the session.

Although Max has a comfortable lead in the Driver’s Championship, Team Principal Christian Horner wants to keep the pressure on, saying, “I think you have to keep the pressure on, because as soon as you don’t, you start making mistakes.”

The team’s rival, Mercedes, on the other hand, looked strong during practice. George Russell took P1 in the first session with teammate Lewis Hamilton just behind in P2.

As FP2 got underway, Verstappen continued to struggle a bit, snagging a P8 finish. It appeared as though his gearbox issues were behind him for the most part.

Depsite the slow start, Verstappen didn’t seem too bothered. He knows the importance of using tonight to re-evalutate the car and re-balance the tires before qualifying, saying, “That wasn’t great, but we have the night to look over things – and third practice too. For sure, we can do better….”

His car is fitted with a new gearbox and he won’t suffer any grid penalties.

Can Verstappen’s Early Struggles Lead To Betting Opportunities?

Max Verstappen may have had a slow start, but there’s no doubt he wants to win his home race and extend his lead for the championship this season.

At the moment, you can get plus money on him setting the pace for the fastest lap on Sunday.

He won last weekend in Belgium and also secured the fastest lap there, and that was after starting P15 due to grid penalties. Verstappen knows this track well, winning here in 2021, and his engine woes appear to be behind him.

He will enter qualifying tomorrow with a new gearbox and over 12 hours to get the car’s balance back to where it needs to be. That will set him up nicely for the race on Sunday.

I like Verstappen at +115 at DraftKings Sportsbook to set the fastest lap during the race.
