Happy 17th Birthday Lamine Yamal

Yamal turns 17 Saturday. One day later, he may lift two trophies for the UEFA European Championship and Player of the Tournament. That’s mind-boggling stuff.

He became the youngest player to score at a men’s European Championship with his gorgeous goal against France in the semifinals. This helped Spain claim the 2-1 victory and a trip to the Final. For the tournament, Yamal has also secured a team-leading three assists in the six matches he played.

What would make winning the award tough for Yamal, even should Spain win the Final against England, are the performances of Dani Olmo and Rodri. Olmo is leading the team with three goals and also has two assists to go with it. If he wins Golden Boot, though, perhaps the voters will opt to give Player of the Tournament to somebody else.

Meanwhile, Rodri has been a force for Spain, leading the team in tackles with 13. Rodri also won seven tackles, which is second on the team behind defender Marc Cucurella’s nine.

Yamal may still need a strong showing in the Final to earn the award over his fellow veteran midfielders.

Don’t Sleep On England

England is coming into the matchup as a small underdog. Because of that, England players all see extremely long odds to win Player of the Tournament. This works to the benefit of those betting on England, who can see big returns on the likes of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.

Kane is leading England with three goals in the tournament. After his goal against the Netherlands in the semifinals, Kane now holds the record for the most goals in the Knockout Stage of the UEFA European Championship all-time with six. If Kane can put up a strong performance and lead England to their first-ever Euro victory, Kane could claim the award as the ribbon on a historic run.

All around, however, Bellingham has also been performing amazingly well for England in the tournament. He has two goals, leads the team in live-ball passes with 14, and has nine tackles with six tackles won. Long odds on either Kane or Bellingham could turn a major profit if either shines in the Final.

How Often Has Uefa Player Of The Tournament Been on Losing Team?

The answer is only once. That means if you believe in England, this is further evidence that the prices are attractive.
