Esports Betting Platform Unikrn To Expand In Europe Thanks To Malta Gaming License

[toc]Esports-only bookmaker Unikrn announced it will start serving more European markets after the company acquired a gaming license from Malta regulators.

Unikrn and Europe

The esports betting business of Unikrn will get a shot in the arm thanks to the Malta license. That should allow it to serve a variety of markets it didn’t have access to previously.

“For a little over a year, Unikrn EU has been working with the Malta Gaming Authority to acquire our new license,” said Rahul Sood, CEO of Unikrn. “Malta has some of the highest regulatory requirements and processes, they are by every measure the gold standard and one of the most respected authorities for responsible and ethical wagering.”

Unikrn — which already served the UK and Australia — did not immediately indicate which countries it would serve by leveraging the Malta license. But it did relay that it would start serving new markets starting in early 2018.

On its blog, Unikrn offered this:

The expansion will increase our real-money platform’s reach from two countries — Australia and the UK — to include about 80% of Europe.

Also of note: Unikrn has a partnership with popular German CS:GO team BIG.

Partnership with RBP

Unikrn EU was classified as a “joint venture with France-based RBP,” a company that is already established in online sports betting in Europe.

“RBP has over 300,000 loyal registered customers, and our sites receive over a million unique visitors per month, making us leader in France when it comes to online betting,” said Emmanuel de Rohan Chabot, CEO of Zeturf and Zebet and co-founder of RBP. “RBP will be a strong partner to Unikrn to help bring regulated, safe, and legal esports betting in markets across Europe, and we look forward to working with their exceptional team.”

Unikrn and cryptocurrency

The move to more markets by Unikrn also represents a serious attempt at cryptocurrency making a push in the regulated online gambling space.

Unikrn is in the midst of an initial coin offering (ICO) that has already raised over $30 million (US) in Ethereum across 112 countries. According to Unikrn, its UnikoinGold sale “is on track to be the single most successful and widely distributed token in the esports and gaming industry.”

Unikrn stated that UnikoinGold Token betting will eventually be available in the European markets it serves.

The announcement also comes as Malta undertakes a mock rollout of cryptocurrency, as suggested by the country’s gaming commission.
