why can't I bet on Duke odds in New Jersey?

In New Jersey, placing bets on any college games within the state or involving New Jersey-based teams is illegal. With the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight tipping off in Newark, N.J., at The Prudential Center, New Jersey residents aren't permitted to wager on any of these three games.

Those in the Garden State must travel to New York or elsewhere to bet on Alabama vs. BYU or Duke vs. Arizona odds.

Some states, like Illinois, New York, and Pennslyvania, allow wagering on collegiate matchups held within the state. Evidently, New Jersey is stricter, providing a prompt reminder of the variations of sports betting laws across the United States.

In the East Region, No. 2 Alabama squares off against No. 6 BYU slated for a 7:09 p.m. ET on Thursday. No. 1 Duke vs. No. 4 Arizona will begin shortly after. The winner of each contest will go head-to-head in Saturday's Elite 8 tilt.
