DraftKings Sportsbook became the latest sportsbook to apply with the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) for licensure in Ohio. Their application, upon approval, means DraftKings will launch in the Buckeye State on Jan. 1, 2023.

DK joins BetMGM and PointsBet on the OCCC’s license portal as major operators. Any book that wants to launch on Jan. 1 must submit their application by July 15, meaning we will see a jump in applicants in the coming days. Ohio’s House Bill 29 allows up to 25 mobile licenses to be distributed in total.

For now, if you want to play sports contests in Ohio via daily fantasy games, consider the promos at the bottom of this post.

DraftKings Sportsbook In Ohio

Under the name Crown Ohio Gaming LLC., DraftKings submitted their application on June 22. The OCCC set an application deadline and maintained their Jan. 1 launch date so that all Ohio sportsbook apps could launch on the same day rather than the shotgun approach we saw in states like New York.

They applied for a Mobile Management Services Provider license, which leads to a Type A (mobile, online) license. This will be in line with the current experience of the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app that is offered in other states.

DK has not yet announced any partnerships with Ohio sports teams. The Cleveland Guardians, Cincinnati Bengals, and Columbus Blue Jackets and Crew have yet to announce partners, making any of them possibilities for DraftKings. They currently have a deal with both the NFL and NBA as a whole.

Ohioans may be familiar with DraftKings already from their Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) platform. Ohio green lit DFS in 2017 and DraftKings launched shortly after. For those who are signed up with DraftKings DFS already, signing up for the sportsbook in January will be an easier process.

DFS Books Available Now

While Ohio is going to miss out on most of the NFL season, DFS is still available in the state. DraftKings and FanDuel offer the most extensive DFS experience for Ohioans as of July 2022. Check out their season-long and weekly contests in the meantime to get in on NFL action.

Check back with TheLines after Jan. 1 for promotions and sign-up bonuses offered by every Ohio sportsbook. Also read up on the process and guidelines of legal sports betting in Ohio.
