DraftKings DC

Popular sportsbook DraftKings announced today its intention to launch online sports betting in Washington, D.C. DraftKings DC will launch following a market access agreement between the sportsbook and D.C. United of the MLS. DK would be joining an ever-growing D.C. market that has expanded to include multiple sportsbooks.

DraftKings DC Incoming

The launch will follow proper licensing and regulatory approvals. Once live in D.C., DraftKings Sportsbook will be available in 29 markets in the United States. DraftKings will host odds on all the local sports teams across the MLB, MLS, NBA, WNBA, NWSL, and NHL. Eligible sports fans will gain access to a wide variety of betting markets available through DraftKings.

“It has been incredible to see legalized sports betting grow rapidly over the past six years, and with plans to launch our online sportsbook in D.C., DraftKings looks forward to expanding its presence in more than half the country,” said Matt Kalish, president, DraftKings North America. “We would like to thank the D.C. Council for creating a path to bring DraftKings’ top-rated sportsbook to the nation’s capital. Together with D.C. United, we look forward to delivering fans a best-in-class experience through our customer-friendly product.”

Washington DC Sports Betting Expansion

Washington, D.C., recently saw the launches of BetMGM alongside FanDuel after lawmakers approved the betting expansion via the approved FY 2025 budget. Before this, only a single sports betting app, GambetDC, could offer odds districtwide.

FanDuel replaced GambetDC and served as the sole districtwide mobile betting app from mid-April to July. While BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook did launch, they and FanDuel had to briefly halt their operations. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was scheduled to sign the budget into law on July 15 but did not do so, temporarily delaying sportsbooks’ services.

Mayor Bowser returned the budget due to disagreements with tax increases. Other provisions, including the sports betting expansion, went into effect, returning the three sportsbooks to districtwide betting.

Under the new budget, Type-A sports betting licenses offer districtwide online betting. Local sports franchises can partner with one betting operator for online sports betting.
