In Game 2 of the 2025 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled even with the Toronto Blue Jays in a dominant 5-1 victory. Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw nine four-hit innings, becoming the first to throw a complete game in the World Series since Johnny Cueto of the Kansas City Royals in Game 2 in 2015. In doing so, Yamamoto also became the first pitcher to throw back-to-back complete games in the postseason since Curt Schilling pulled off the feat with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001.

"I think that you look at Yamamoto," manager Dave Roberts said, "it's kind of the throwback in the sense of when he starts a game, he expects to finish it. And he'll go as long as I let him."

The task won't get any easier for the Blue Jays. The series now heads to Los Angeles, with Tyler Glasnow taking the hill for the Dodgers. Max Scherzer gets the Game 3 nod for Toronto in what could be the last start of his career. However, the 41-year-old doesn't sound like a man who's retiring anytime soon.

“I’m having too much fun. You get to go out there and pitch in this environment. This is what you play the game for," Scherzer said after ALCS Game 4. "It’s so much fun to be in these types of situations. For me, I just enjoy competing too much. I still feel pretty good. My body feels great. So, everything’s good.”

While Scherzer will try to get the best out of his dying embers, Glasnow is very much in the heart of his prime. The 32-year-old righty has dazzled in his 13.2 innings of work in the 2025 postseason, allowing just one run and seven hits.

Glasnow will also look to get revenge in what will be the biggest start of his career. Back in the 2020 World Series, he lost both of his starts with the Rays, including the crucial Game 5, as the Dodgers won their first title in 32 years.

After the way Game 2 went, we truly think Game 1 was an outlier. While the nine-run inning the Toronto Blue Jays put up was absolutely sensational, the momentum came to a screeching halt with Yoshinobu Yamamoto's phenomenal complete game.

If anyone is going to get to Tyler Glasnow and stop the Dodgers' momentum, it's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer. They're a combined .414 at the plate against Glasnow, while the rest of the team is a combined 9-for-71 (.127) lifetime. If they don't step up, it could be a long night for Toronto.

We'll see how Scherzer does under the bright lights, though his August outing in Los Angeles was inspiring. He only allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in six innings, though the Dodgers were able to win comfortably, 5-1. Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts got their licks in that game, which could translate into success at the plate tonight.

While Ohtani is still the MVP favorite, it's hard not to want to put a sprinkle on Yamamoto to win the World Series MVP after his unreal performance. He's an old-school pitcher who can still go the distance, and he could even make a bullpen appearance after his second start. If he has a phenomenal second and/or third outing, he could win, especially if the offensive production is very spread out. Get him while you still can at +950, as some sportsbooks already have him as low as +500.
