Dodgers vs Blue Jays MLB World Series Game 5: Best Bets, Home Run Picks & Top Player Props

The Toronto Blue Jays are not backing down! Against all odds, Toronto flipped the script and won 6-1 to draw the 2025 MLB World Series even at two games apiece. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. started things off with a two-run homer to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead in the third before they exploded for four more runs in the seventh.
Guerrero's home run gave him seven this postseason. Despite never having hit a postseason home run until 2025, he now owns the Blue Jays record for most career postseason homers. Setting that mark in a classic strength-on-strength battle with Shohei Ohtani makes it that much more special.
“It's easy to write Ohtani versus Guerrero. To us, it's Toronto versus Los Angeles,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the game.
“But that swing was huge. A sweeper is a pitch designed to generate popups, in my opinion. And the swing that Vlad put on it was elite.
"After last night and kind of all the recognition that went into Shohei individually, then he's on the mound today, it's a huge swing from Vlad. It's a huge swing to get us going.”
“I respect Ohtani a lot,” Guerrero said, “and I know basically myself and him, we are, like, the talk of the Series. But when we are between those two lines, we're competing. It felt good that tonight I could hit that homer against him.”
The Blue Jays completely neutralized Ohtani on both fronts, as he gave up four runs in six innings and went 0-for-3 at the plate. Much of that may have been due to exhaustion following Game 4's 18-inning marathon. In fact, Ohtani received a postgame IV.
Bieber Back in Cy Young Form
Toronto pitcher Shane Bieber entered Game 4 fresh and full of energy. The Blue Jays' trade deadline pickup, who started the season in the minors rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, came in on eight days' rest and looked like a former Cy Young winner. His final line: one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters (Ohtani twice) in 5.1 innings.
"For a guy that got here at the deadline, he's -- I mean, to me, he seems like he fits in really well," Schneider said. "It's a really good complement to the starters that we have here, and it's so nice to have a group like that, that just kind of get it, you know?
"It's not an easy thing to do, get traded from the only team you've been with, and then just have your life kind of flipped upside down in a new country and things, with a family.
"But he just settled in really well, and these are the spots that we acquired him for. And it's asking a lot of him, based on what he's been through with the recovery from the surgery and stuff. But he's enjoying it, embracing it, and being a huge part of us getting here."

Tonight's Game 5 features one of the best stories in all of sports: Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage. The 22-year-old has gone through the entire minor league system and is now being dealt the monumental task of trying to bring a World Series to Canada. He'll be up against Blake Snell in a Game 1 rematch, who will look to rebound after being beaten up for five runs on eight hits the first time around.

The Blue Jays entered the World Series as an afterthought and have proved they are anything but. They blew out the Dodgers in Game 1, battled in a tie ball game all the way up to the 7th inning in Game 2, lost Game 3 in the 18th inning, and bounced back strong in Game 4. There's no reason they can't flip the script and finish the job in Games 5-7.
The biggest question tonight will be: Will Blake Snell come back with a vengeance after the worst postseason start of his career? It's familiar territory for the 32-year-old Washington native, who found himself with the tall task of pitching World Series Game 6 in 2020 when he was with Tampa Bay. In that clutch situation against the mighty Dodgers, he allowed just two hits and one run in 5.2 innings. It still wasn't enough as the Dodgers won 3-1 to clinch the title.
A Much-Needed Wakeup Call?
This will be one of the toughest games to predict in the entire year, and we simply have to side with who we think has the deeper, more experienced roster. That, of course, is the Dodgers. Though Los Angeles may have asked too much of Shohei Ohtani in Game 4, they have plenty of other postseason superheroes in Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy. Reliever Blake Treinen thought it was positive to have a wake-up call after Ohtani's insane postseason record of getting on base 11 straight times came to a brutal end.
“I think we’re all so talented here, it’s good to have a game like this," Treinen told USA TODAY Sports. “It’d be good to have a game once where everything’s clicking for one. I think we’ve played really good team baseball, but just to have one game where our offense just goes crazy.
“I think our pitching is doing pretty good, even with the six runs today, but we just haven’t had that great all-around great game yet."
The Dodgers' pitching has made up for their lackluster performances at the plate all postseason. They've only scored more than five runs twice in their 14 games, needing 18 innings to pull off the feat in Game 3. If the pitching can't come through, they'll need somebody at the dish to step up.
