What’s The Status Of Metcalf’s Trade Demand?
Metcalf wants out of Seattle as he heads into the last season of a three-year, $72 million extension. He reportedly asked to be dealt to a contender, of which he must have a relatively narrow definition. The Seahawks finished one spot out of the playoffs in the past two seasons despite going 10-7 in 2024.
According to The Athletic’s Diana Russini, Metcalf also seeks a new deal in the $30 million yearly range. Metcalf’s camp made the demand on March 5.
A team meeting that sort of ask would pay Metcalf like one of the top receivers in the league. However, he hasn’t performed at that level, especially last year. In fact, he wasn’t even the most productive receiver on his team in 2024. Jaxon Smith-Njigba exceeded Metcalf’s catches, yards, and touchdowns while posting a much higher Success Rate.

Will Seahawks Deal Metcalf?
Some reports have said that Seattle was already in trade talks regarding Metcalf before the demand. That might increase the chances of a trade.
However, the reported question borders on astronomy. The Seahawks have been asking for a first-round pick and a third-round pick in exchange for the unhappy pass-catcher. That’s probably going to result in a lot of short phone calls.
Realistically, netting a single second-round pick would probably be a win, considering the trading team must also commit to extending Metcalf. Otherwise, there’s no reason for that team not to wait until he hits the open market.
For now, it seems very unlikely anyone comes close to Seattle’s demand. Furthermore, the Seahawks have a performing veteran QB and an ascending defense, so it doesn’t seem likely they’re looking to take a step back. They might be content to make a ridiculous ask and keep Metcalf on board if nobody meets their price.
Aside from Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks don’t have any starter-quality pass-catchers on the team, especially if they cut Noah Fant as many expect.
All of that points to Metcalf returning to Seattle. The D.K. Metcalf odds reflect that reality, having Seattle tied as the most likely destination.
Usual Suspects Chargers, Patriots Among Possible Destinations
Aside from Seattle, many teams connected to the litany of receiving options hitting the market are in the mix for Metcalf, per the odds.
The Chargers have a strong need for an outside receiver. Though Ladd McConkey did a fine job leading the crew last season, he’s likely to continue playing out of the slot. Someone has to play outside, and Metcalf would be a nice addition to a team ready to compete now.
L.A. also has a ton of cap space ($83 million, third-most per Over The Cap). However, Jim Harbaugh usually focuses on the trenches first, and the Chargers have significant needs on the interior.
It’s much the same story in New England. The Patriots had a dreadful receiving corps, probably the worst in the NFL. That’s no way to support a promising rookie QB like Drake Maye.
But, new coach Mike Vrabel espoused a desire to fix the offensive line first in his opening presser. Again, the Patriots have abundant cap space, but where will they spend it?
The Raiders are another team to watch, depending on what they do at quarterback. They have $88 million in cap space (second-most), and they currently have Tre Tucker and D.J. Turner penciled in as starting receivers. That won’t cut it if they bring in a young QB, even with Brock Bowers in the fold.
