One of the most anticipated games of the NBA regular season tips off on Tuesday night. The L.A. Lakers welcome the Dallas Mavericks to town, which is the first chance for a Luka Doncic revenge game. After one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, what do Lakers vs. Mavs odds say about this matchup?

When the massive trade went down, which sent Doncic to L.A. and Anthony Davis to Dallas, pundits largely lambasted Dallas while lauding L.A. Thus far, that's proven correct due to another Davis injury. The oft-injured defensive ace continues to nurse an adductor strain and won't play in this game.

Dallas has managed a decent 5-4 record since the deal, but that included blowout losses to the Warriors and Cavaliers.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have thrived, going 6-2. In this small sample, they have the No. 6 net rating in the NBA, per Cleaning The Glass. That's an improvement over their No. 11 ranking overall. They have outperformed their betting markets by more than any other NBA team.

Dallas has gone the other way, sliding from No. 9 to No. 20.

The Lakers figure to have an advantage in size for once. With Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II also out and Dwight Powell questionable, the Mavericks might remain fresh out of centers. They started P.J. Washington there in their last game, a drubbing at the hands of Golden State.

That mitigates the Lakers' most significant roster hole, which is also at the center.

Thankfully for bettors and viewers, neither team played on Monday. That sets the stage for both teams to enter well-rested and with no nasty last-minute scratches.

The hype will be evident for the first of Luka Doncic's revenge games.

While Doncic opted to take the high road and didn't say anything negative about the franchise that nurtured his development at the highest level, there's no doubt he's aware of the caustic comments made by Mavs management. Notable quotes from ownership and management blasted Doncic about his weight and defense and suggested that trading him would help the team's culture.

Still, to say Doncic's early days with the Lakers have been uneven would be an understatement. In a two-game stretch that featured ugly losses to the lowly Hornets and Jazz, Doncic had as many turnovers (11) as made field goals.
