When will Dak Prescott return to the field for the Cowboys?
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones noted during a radio appearance on Tuesday that the team will likely place Prescott on injured reserve. This decision would rule Prescott out for at least the next six weeks, beginning with their matchup against the NFC East-rival Eagles in Week 10.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said Cooper Rush will start. Trey Lance will be the backup after holding the emergency QB title.
Dallas is a Dallas Cowboys +7.5 (-122) on FanDuel home underdog for Sunday’s tilt. For context, Philly was a 2.5-point favorite on the look-ahead line.
Prescott’s injury will also sideline him from the MNF odds against C.J. Stroud and the Texans on Nov. 18 before the Cowboys head on the road to face the red-hot Commanders. His other absence would come versus the Giants on Thanksgiving.
After a short stint in Dallas to begin Rush’s career, he returned to the franchise in 2021 before beating out Garrett Gilbert and Ben DiNucci for the backup job. He’s no stranger to delivering as an underdog, leading the Cowboys to a 20-16 victory over the Vikings in Minnesota when Prescott nursed a calf injury. During the following campaign, Rush helped deliver a 4-1 mark, with Prescott sidelined due to a fracture in the thumb on his throwing hand.
Meanwhile, Lance, a former third-overall pick by the 49ers, saw his most in-game work this preseason after being dealt to the Cowboys in August 2023.

How long will Dak Prescott be sidelined?
A hamstring injury creates an uncertain timeline, especially for a QB. Per ESPN, Prescott is dealing with a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, meaning that part of the tendon has pulled away from the bone. This diagnosis may require him to miss up to two months of action.
At 3-5 and trailing Washington and Philadelphia in the NFC East standings, Dallas has plenty of urgency to perform well without him. Luckily, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) and edge rusher Micah Parsons (ankle) are set to return against the Eagles.
Prescott could return as soon as Week 14 against the Bengals, especially if the Cowboys inch back into the playoff race.
