What Group Is the Czech Republic In?

The Czechs landed in Group F, which is quite good news for fans of the team. Group F does feature one heavyweight in Portugal (sixth in FIFA world rankings). However, the other opponents are lightly regarded. Turkey (40th) and Georgia (75th) both rank below the Czech Republic, albeit by only a few spots in Turkey’s case.

Up to three teams can advance into the knockout phase of the Euro 2024 bracket. During the group stage, teams earn points for wins (three) and draws (one). Whichever two teams accumulate the most points in the group will advance. Additionally, the four highest-scoring No. 3 finishers will advance. So, if Czech Republic finishes third, their fate depends on how they compare to the third-place finishers in the other groups.

How the Czech Republic Qualified for Euro 2024

The Czech Republic also got dealt a pretty friendly qualifying path. Group E featured several lightweights, but the Czechs didn’t top the group as Albania shocked pundits by doing so. Still, the Czech team compiled a 4-1-3 record to tie with Albania, finishing second on goal difference.

Czech Republic Likely Starting Lineup

Here’s a look at the Czech Republic’s likely starting 11:

  • GK Jindrich Stanek
  • DF Vladimir Coufal
  • DF Tomas Holes
  • DF David Zima
  • DF David Doudera
  • MF Tomas Soucek
  • MF Michal Sadilek
  • MF Lukas Provod
  • FW Patrik Schick
  • FW Jan Kuchta
  • FW Adam Hlozek

Notable Players

The Czech team is in the midst of a bit of a youth movement, as most of the starters are on the right side of 30 after several national stalwarts saw their careers end in the past 10 years.

That leaves Tomas Soucek as one of the more senior members at 29. He’ll captain the team, bringing 68 caps and 12 goals. Those rank first and second on the team, respectively.

Only Patrik Schick has more goals with 18. The Bayer Leverkusen man hasn’t exactly been a fixture in the starting lineup, though, as the coaching staff seems content to rotate their forwards frequently. Fellow Leverkusen forward Adam Hlozek makes for a pairing that at least has some familiarity.

The goalkeeping will be quite green, at least in international terms. Jindrich Stanek leads the group, which only barely gets into double digits combined. Of their 10 caps, Stanek has nine.
