Creighton March Madness Futures
Why Creighton Can Cover The Spread
Creighton has the more talented team, with multiple projected second-round picks on the team. They also have one of the best coaches in college basketball in Greg McDermott. That’s a powerful combination in a spot where the opposition looks a bit one-dimensional — NC State ranks 85th in adjusted defensive efficiency per KenPom’s numbers. Coming out of a weak year for the ACC, the Wolfpack haven’t beaten a tournament team since Miami in mid-January.
Why NC State Can Cover The Spread
Creighton has largely failed to perform to its talent level this year. And NC State probably has the single most explosive player in the game in Terquavion Smith, who surprised many by not turning pro last year. He converted an atrocious 37.7% from the field, but if he gets hot, he can swing this game for the Wolfpack. Creighton also largely feasted on the dregs of its schedule, especially in the past month, and didn’t come close to covering in their last three games against tournament opponents.

Final Thoughts
Creighton had one of the worst rates of forcing turnovers in the nation, and NC State coughed up the fourth-fewest turnovers per possession. That means shooting variance will probably play a big role in NC State’s offensive output here. Given Creighton’s late struggles against good opposition, it’s probably best to play NC State on the moneyline if you like their chances of covering. However, the advanced metrics are quite fond of Creighton and believe they’re under-seeded at No. 6. Betting them in futures markets like Final Four odds wouldn’t seem out of line. They still have a ton of talent and a great coach.
