NFL Playoff Odds 2026-27: Odds and Picks to Make the NFL Postseason

Written By John Carlo Villaruel | Fact Checked by: Carson Mundy | Last Updated at August 31, 2026

NFL playoff odds let you bet on whether a team will make or miss the postseason. Sportsbooks usually post two choices for each team: “Yes” to qualify and “No” to miss out.

Fourteen of the NFL’s 32 teams make the playoffs, with seven spots available in each conference. Four division winners qualify automatically, then three wild cards fill out each side.

That leaves plenty of room for surprise teams, but prices matter. A favorite at -400 may look safe without offering much return, while a plus-money contender only needs to outperform the market slightly to become interesting.

The current market favors the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills in the odds to make the NFL playoffs this year. The Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins sit at the other end of the board. DraftKings Sportsbook prices from August are cited below. Futures market and are subject to change.

Shortest NFL Playoff Odds

The shortest prices in NFL playoff odds are for the teams most expected to play in January. These DraftKings numbers also line up with some of the highest regular-season win totals on the board.

Nobody has shorter odds than the Rams, and it isn't particularly close. That doesn't automatically make -460 a bet worth making. Risk $100, and you're only making about $21 if Los Angeles reaches the postseason.

Longest NFL Playoff Odds

At the bottom, sportsbooks are pricing a playoff berth as a major upset.

DraftKings also has Arizona at 500-1 to win the Super Bowl and Miami at 350-1. Big numbers always look tempting. They don't always deserve your money.

Arizona offers a massive return if it somehow reaches the playoffs, but a 3.5-win total shows just how much work sportsbooks think this team has ahead of it.

Best Bets to Make the 2027 NFL Playoffs

Chasing the shortest odds usually isn't the smartest play. Most of the value usually sits in the middle of the pack. That's where you start finding teams that only need a small step forward to beat the market.

Jacksonville Jaguars, +110

Jacksonville stands out more than any other plus-money team on the board. Winning 13 games usually pushes a playoff price well into the favorites, not to plus money.

Sure, forcing 31 takeaways isn't something most defenses repeat. Even so, +110 still feels a little longer than it should.

New Orleans Saints, +184

This isn't a bet on New Orleans becoming an elite team overnight. It's really a bet that the NFC South stays wide open. With a 7.5-win total, the Saints don't need everything to break perfectly to stay in the division race.

Before betting, compare that number with NFL division odds because winning the South could offer better value than simply backing the Saints to make the playoffs.

Detroit Lions, -220

Detroit doesn't have the biggest payout. That's part of what makes this number appealing. Finishing last in the NFC North last season comes with a scheduling benefit, and ESPN's preseason FPI gives the Lions a 68.4% chance to reach the playoffs.

Green Bay and Chicago won't make anything easy, but Detroit starts with a friendlier path than most of its division rivals.

Picks to Miss the NFL Playoffs This Season

Betting “No” can be more interesting when last year's record looks difficult to repeat. The Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears fit that profile, while the Carolina Panthers show both signs of regression and a rough schedule ahead.

Denver Broncos, +118

Denver is probably the most interesting "No" bet on the board. A 14-3 record looks impressive until you remember the Broncos also went 10-2 in true one-score games. Teams rarely keep doing that, especially against a tougher schedule.

Chicago Bears, -110

Chicago's price feels about right at first glance, but the numbers raise a few questions. The Bears finished 11-6 and won the NFC North last season. They were also ranked 30th in defensive EPA on plays without a turnover. Add a tougher first-place schedule, and backing "No" starts making more sense.

Carolina Panthers, -270

Carolina is the least attractive price of these three, but the reasoning is hard to ignore. The Panthers went 7-3 in one-score games and 6-2 in field-goal games while also drawing one of the tougher projected schedules. Paying -270 is the part that's hard to justify.

How to Bet on NFL Playoff Odds

Placing your bet on NFL playoff odds is the easy part.

  1. Open the NFL futures section of any online sportsbook.
  2. Find the make-or-miss playoff market.
  3. Choose "Yes" or "No" for the team(s) of your choice.
  4. Enter your stake, review the odds, and place the bet(s)!

You'll find this market at all NFL betting sites, but don't assume every book is offering the same price.

Shop Between Sportsbooks

This is where line shopping starts to matter. Two sportsbooks can list the exact same team at +340 and +400. On a $100 winning bet, that's another $60 in profit for doing a little extra shopping. You can claim sportsbook promos before signing up with a different brand.

Don't stop after looking at the playoff market. Compare those prices with Super Bowl odds and NFL MVP odds. Sometimes they tell a very different story.

Don't Pay Any Price for Safety

A -500 favorite can lose through injuries, quarterback problems, or simple NFL variance. Futures money is also tied up for months. Not every favorite deserves your money.

How to Read Odds to Make NFL Playoffs

Odds to make the NFL playoffs feature standard American pricing. A minus sign means the sportsbook sees that outcome as more likely. A plus sign means you're getting an underdog price.

At -200, a $100 bet would return $50 profit and $150 total. At +200, the same $100 stake would return $200 profit and $300 total.

The “Yes” and “No” prices also include sportsbook margin, so they won't convert into perfectly opposite probabilities.

Where to Bet on NFL Playoff Odds

Legal sportsbooks generally list make-or-miss playoff futures in their NFL markets. Availability depends on your state. Start by comparing the best NFL betting apps rather than taking the first price you see.

New and existing customers can also check current NFL betting promos before placing a futures wager.

How the NFL Playoffs Work

The NFL postseason field features 14 teams.

Prior to the 2020 season, six teams from each conference made the postseason each year. Of those six teams from both the AFC and NFC, two teams from each conference were given a first-round bye. The other four teams squared off in Wild Card games for the right to advance to the Divisional Round.

Now, an extra team is added to the field in both conferences.

Prior to the playoff format changes, the NFL last tinkered with the postseason in 1990 when the playoffs expanded from 10 to 12 teams.

NFL Playoff Odds FAQ

How do I bet on NFL playoff odds?
Find the playoff futures market at your sportsbook and choose “Yes” if you think a team qualifies or “No” if you think it misses. Enter your stake, review the odds, and submit the bet.

Arizona and Miami have the longest odds of reaching the postseason. If you're looking beyond the obvious favorites, Denver is a more interesting fade because last year's record came with an unusually high number of close-game wins.
Which NFL teams are likely to make the playoffs?
Los Angeles, Baltimore, and Buffalo have three of the shortest prices on the board. Those teams are also near the top of the broader NFL playoff 2027 odds market, although shorter prices mean smaller potential returns.
Where can I bet on NFL playoff odds?
Any legal sportsbook that offers NFL futures should offer this market. Compare prices before betting because playoff futures aren't always identical across sportsbooks.
