Texas Vs. Ohio State Odds

Based on hypothetical odds released by FanDuel Sportsbook, Ohio State was lined a -1.5 (-115) favorite over Texas. The hypothetical over/under was lined at 51.5 points. Watch for Wednesday’s results to move this after open.

Despite nearly grasping defeat from the jaws of victory, Texas managed to stave off Arizona State in one of the all-time college football postseason games. It wasn’t all peachy, however, as Texas’ offense struggled mightily at times and the kicking game was dreadful. But, in double overtime, the Longhorns defense showed up, sealing the game with an interception. Should Texas’ offense find its stride, the defense is stout enough to shut down almost any offense.

A disjointed offense may be more of an issue in the Cotton Bowl. Particularly, against a ferocious Ohio State defense capable of shutting down the run and pass, QB Quinn Ewers has to improve his game. The Buckeyes neutralized Oregon’s run game early and sacked Heisman finalist QB Dillon Gabriel seven times.

Since laying it on Tennessee in Round 1, Ohio State’s seen the backing of the market, opening up as a favorite in this game.

Where uncertainty lies is between the Texas defensive front and Ohio State offensive line. Despite sustaining several injuries–two key starters are done for the year–the front held up against both Tennessee and Oregon and opened rushing lanes. Against a herculean effort from ASU RB Cam Skattebo, Texas’ defensive front didn’t budge. It remains one of the top individual units in the nation.

Texas owns a 2-1 all-time series lead over Ohio State. The last meeting occurred in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl (Texas won, 24-21). These teams open the 2025 season against each other in Columbus.
