Corales Puntacana Championship Odds Graeme McDowell

Coming on the heels of the 2020 US Open, the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic makes its third appearance on the PGA Tour. While there are no major players from the Top-50 in the World Golf Rankings playing in this year’s tourney, the rescheduled event from March offers a bonus. The Corales Puntacana Championship will offer full FedExCup points to the winner, along with a two-year PGA Tour exemption that comes with that title. The winner will also receive an invitation to the 2021 Masters.

New face Will Zalatoris, the favorite

There are some new names to learn about on the PGA Tour this week at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship. It’s a good mix of up-and-coming golfers and some tour veterans – albeit many well past their prime. Many of these players didn’t compete in last week’s US Open, but some did and there is a new approach for each and every event – especially following a major championship.

Low scores will be in abundance this week, with moderate wind projected. The betting favorite this week is little-known 24-year-old Will Zalatoris (+1400) whose best odds to win are at DraftKings Sportsbook, but is currently +1200 at both FanDuel and BetMGM. Zalatoris just finished T6 at last week’s US Open in his second PGA major championship appearance but he’s been dominating on the Korn Ferry Tour. Zalatoris has the lowest scoring average on the Korn Ferry Tour with 13 top-10 finishes, which includes one win this year.

Corales Puntacana Championship market splits

While in-play betting is very popular on the PGA Tour, this event will present a new dynamic with odds adjusting on players who are not usually near the top of the leaderboard. Market splits will assist you in updating particular players’ pre-tournament interest in the betting market.

Here are some player betting splits from BetMGM as of Wednesday afternoon. These players are generating the most interest to win and to finish top-10.

The most money to win is on Mackenzie Hughes, who has taken more than 35% of the total handle. His odds are +1600 across the board after opening +2000 at DraftKings.

The golfer taking the next most money at BetMGM is down the odds board. Kristoffer Ventura has taken 12.83% of the money wagered to win and is tied with Zalatoris and Henrik Stenson with 6.85% of the bets to win.

Zalatoris has still taken 5.46% of the total handle despite low odds to win. Of note, defending champion Graeme McDowell has odds of +5500 at BetMGM but is +9000 at DraftKings.

Designed by Tom Fazio in 2006, the event was originally on the Korn Ferry Tour before becoming a PGA Tour event in 2018. Last year it was played in March, but the coastal views in September are still stunning. The “Devil’s Elbow” is a three-hole closing stretch that culminates with dramatic forced carry over the Bay of Corrales on hole No. 18. The dramatic ocean cliffs framing the curvilinear cove that forms the bay on the inside of the 500 yard par 4 is a stunning closing hole.

Some difficult green complexes can provide resistance, especially if the wind blows off the coast.
