Colorado Avalanche vs Philadelphia Flyers: Prediction, Picks & Best Bets for Friday Night Hockey
The Colorado Avalanche (34-5-9) look to get back on track tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers (23-17-9) at Ball Arena. First puck drops tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
The Avalanche started this season red-hot but have faltered in January, losing three games in regulation since January 4 after starting the season with just two regulation losses up until that point. After their shootout loss against Anaheim on Wednesday, they are now behind the pace to beat the insane 2022-23 Boston Bruins record of 135 points in a single season. Currently, the Avs are on pace for 131.5 points and lead the league with an incredible +77 goal differential.
The Philadelphia Flyers, meanwhile, are in absolutely miserable form this month, although they've picked up three points in their last two games. They suffered six straight defeats up to that point, earning only one point in that span. They now sit four points behind the New York Islanders for the final Metropolitan Division playoff spot and five points behind the Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card spot. Fortunately, the Flyers have games in hand in both races.

The Avalanche and Flyers have historically played close games, and both teams are playing a bit below form as of late. Flyers games have had a lot of goals in January, but that's generally been caused by their opponents. Philadelphia is back on a nice little two-game run, picking up three points, and desperately needs to pick up at least a point tonight against the best team in hockey to stay close in the playoff race.
Nathan MacKinnon - Colorado Avalanche puck line had been the best bet in sports up until the beginning of this month, but we don't know what's going on in Colorado at the moment. Perhaps their stars are trying not to get hurt before the Olympics? Are they bored? Maybe they're not getting the right bounces?
Whatever it is, it's clear that the Avalanche aren't playing their best. In fact, it's far from their best hockey. We know they can dominate; they know that they can dominate. Maybe they're just coasting before the league takes a break for the Olympics.
Regardless, we have the Colorado Avalanche winning 3-2 tonight. MacKinnon to score and Makar to put up at least a point sounds like a recipe for success.
