College World Series Odds: Wake Forest, LSU or The Field?
After two weeks of the NCAA baseball tournament, we finally have our eight teams heading to Omaha: No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 Florida, No. 5 LSU, No. 7 Virginia No. 8 Stanford are the ranked teams, with three unseeded Cinderellas in Tennessee, TCU, and Oral Roberts. You may recognize most of these teams as having headlined preseason college baseball odds. Despite twists and turns, we’re left with what feels like the eight truly best teams in the country. As the best sports betting sites offer odds on the CWS, we’ll go over the field, brackets, schedule, and odds for the 2023 College World Series.
The CWS begins Friday, June 16 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. All games will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2.

Bracket 1 Preview

The No. 2 overall seed Florida Gators (50-15) emerged victorious from their region and soundly beat South Carolina in the Super Regional round. They dominated every phase of the game en route to punching their ticket. Two-way player Jac Caglianone continues to set the Florida program record for home runs in a season, currently at 31. Pitcher Hurston Waldrep (9-3, 4.15 ERA) tossed 13 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings in the clinching game against South Carolina, his best outing of the year.
While Florida made quick work of their Super Regional, the Virginia Cavaliers (50-13) impressed in their two wins last round. After missing out on a series sweep by literal inches, UVA went back to work, hanging 26 runs on Duke in two games to punch their ticket. Virginia punishes fastball pitchers, displayed no more clearly than in the Supers. Pitching also improved during their run, not allowing a team to score more than four runs this entire tournament.
The TCU Horned Frogs (42-22) own the nation’s longest winning streak at 10. They’re also one of the hottest teams currently, finally solving their pitching woes from midseason. Freshman Kole Klecker headlines that group of arms while All American Brayden Taylor is now the record holder for program home runs. A combination of power and newly found pitching makes TCU a dangerous team.
Don’t call them a Cinderella – the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles are 51-12 and prove they can play with the big boys. They didn’t encounter the most difficult route to Omaha, still owning the nation’s 238rd toughest schedule. However, Oral Roberts did prove they can play from behind. They erased a late deficit in Game 2 against Oregon and shut the door by racking up 11 runs to clinch a spot in Omaha.

Welcome to the Group of Death. The nation’s best two teams – Wake Forest and LSU – square off against the top-rated No. 2 seed, Tennessee (12 in RPI) and another regional host, Stanford. College World Series odds tables are top-loaded with teams from this bracket despite the treacherous road to the final. Currently, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+260) and LSU Tigers (+360) are the frontrunners.
In the CWS, pitching matters most. Depth of the bullpen will be tested due to the arduous double-elimination CWS format. The best three pitching teams all reside in Bracket 2: Wake Forest, LSU, and Tennessee. Wake rosters the best all-around pitching staff, headlined by Rhett Lowder (15-0, 1.81), Josh Hartle (11-1, 2.28), and Sean Sullivan (5-1, 2.47). On their entire staff, just one pitcher with more than nine innings pitched has an ERA over 3.5.
While Wake has the top all-around pitching staff, LSU rosters the best individual pitcher, Paul Skenes (12-2, 1.77). Skenes has mowed down 188 batters in 107 IP and is almost an automatic victory for the Tigers this season. They also bring one of the best hitting duos in the country in Dylan Crews and Tommy White. However, their lineup is packed with power as eight of their nine regular batters have at least 10 home runs. Overall, LSU leads the remaining teams in wOBA (.488).
The Stanford Cardinal (44-18) come in with the weakest overall resume. They’re last in FIP (5.43) and fielding (.972), but do just enough to notch victories (with a little bit of luck). Their route to Omaha was far from easy, having gone through Texas A&M and Texas. The Tennessee Volunteers (43-20) are playing their best baseball of the year behind a strong rotation. Chase Dollander (7-6, 4.50), Drew Beam (9-4, 3.78), and Chase Burns (4-3, 4.64) might be the second-best trio behind Wake.
