Impact Injuries On College Football Week 2 Odds

All kick times below are listed in ET.

Idaho at Wyoming, Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Starting running back Dawaiian McNeely missed Week 1 and is questionable for Week 2 as he recovers from a torn ACL from last year. Back Harrison Waylee is also out at least the next two weeks after undergoing a knee procedure before the season began. Wyoming rushed on 58% of its offensive plays in a 48-7 loss to Arizona State. North Carolina transfer D.J. Jones did not play last season in Chapel Hill.

Wyoming is also without starting left tackle Nathan Geiger, defensive end DeVonne Harris, and potentially tight end John Michael Gyllenborg. The first two were confirmed out Monday. Each of Wyoming's last 10 games against FCS foes went under the point total (average: 40 combined points).

Idaho starting QB Jack Layne suffered a broken collarbone and will miss several weeks.

Charlotte at North Carolina, Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Starting QB Max Johnson suffered a broken leg in UNC's opening win over Minnesota. He will miss the remainder of the season. Sophomore Conner Harrell steps in as the starter. He played 17 snaps against the Gophers and completed two-of-four passes for 34 yards.

Charlotte head coach Biff Poggi had a viral moment this past week, stating half of his starters were injured and not expected to return until Week 4. Back C.J. Stokes and receiver Duane Thomas missed the game. Ten different offensive linemen got work in a 30-7 loss to James Madison; six of them played 40+ snaps. Defensively, 19 different players played 10+ snaps.

Texas Tech at Washington State, Saturday (10:00 p.m.)

Texas Tech is potentially facing widespread injuries on defense. Four starters are listed as questionable for Saturday following an outing where the Red Raiders gave up 51 points to FCS Abilene Christian. Tech surrendered 615 total yards to ACU.

Additionally, star running back Tahj Brooks appears on Monday's injury report for an arm injury. Last year, Brooks rushed for over 1,500 yards.

Other Impact Injuries

Other Roster & Staff Impacts on Week 2 Odds

BYU at SMU, Thursday (7:00 p.m.)

Jake Retzlaff started over Gerry Bohanon in BYU's 41-13 opening game win over Southern Illinois. Bohanon played eight snaps in Week 1.

Texas at Michigan, Saturday (12:00 p.m.)

Davis Warren started at QB in Michigan's opening weekend 30-10 win over Fresno State. Alex Orji mixed in, but Warren was the clear starter (53-9 in snaps over Orji). Word from camp is that Orji lost the QB1 battle rather than Warren seizing it. Texas jumped from a -3.5 road favorite to -6.5 on Monday.

Kansas State at Tulane, Saturday (12:00 p.m.)

Darian Mensah started at QB over Oregon transfer Ty Thompson in Week 1. He led the Green Wave to a 52-0 win over Southeast Louisiana and Thompson played just 14 garbage time snaps.

Iowa State at Iowa, Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Head coach Kirk Ferentz returns to the sideline, as does WR coach Jon Budmayr. The two served a one-game suspension last week due to recruiting violations.

Sam Houston State at UCF, Saturday (6:30 p.m.)

JUCO transfer Hunter Watson won a three-way QB battle over incumbent Grant Gunnell and Central Michigan transfer Jase Bauer. He threw for 229 yards and two scores in a 34-14 upset win over Rice (+9.5).

Samford at Florida, Saturday (7:00 p.m.)

True freshman D.J. Lagway is getting first-team reps in place of an injured Graham Mertz (concussion). Lagway came to Gainesville as the third-ranked overall recruit and top QB, per 247Sports. He impressed in Florida's spring game back in April.

Weather Impacts On College Football Week 2 Odds

Weekly college football weather reports will be released later this week as forecasts become more certain. But here’s a few spots to keep tabs on early in the week.

Watch for potential tropical development in the Gulf Coast late this week that could impact games like Kansas State at Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana at Southern Miss. The system may not form at all and, if it does, is currently forecast to move out by Saturday, but any slight adjustments or delays to that outlook pushes storms and flooding rain to game day.

Thunderstorms are forecast all week long for the state of Florida. Sam Houston State at UCF, Army at FAU, Florida A&M at Miami (FL), and Samford at Florida could all be impacted.

The HRRR model forecasts a disruption heading into the weekend in the Ohio Valley region that could turn into a severe weather event. While the certainty of that model is extremely low this many days out, it's worth keeping an eye on Western Michigan at Ohio State, Northern Illinois at Notre Dame, Bowling Green at Penn State, and Michigan State at Maryland. Check back later this week for a full college football weather report and an update on this system.

Situational Spots To Watch With College Football Week 2 Odds

Army at Florida Atlantic, Saturday (12:00 p.m.)

FAU has yet to face Navy since joining the American. The tricky wrinkle to teams joining the AAC is having to defend against the option, now not just once but twice per year potentially. FAU last played an option team (Air Force) in 2021 and lost 31-7 (FAU +4 in that game). The Falcons rushed for over 440 yards in that game.

Troy at Memphis, Saturday (12:00 p.m.)

Memphis plays Florida State next week in Tallahassee, a reunion with former head coach Mike Norvell. This week, they host Troy, who just lost its opening game to Nevada. It'd be easy for Memphis to look past this 0-1 opponent and prepare for an apparently vulnerable FSU team.

Missouri State at Ball State, Saturday (2:00 p.m.)

Ball State was the only FBS team to not play a Week 1 game. Watch for a short line as Missouri State transitions to the FBS next season and a well-rested Ball State team with tape on its opponent to over-produce. Missouri State lost 29-24 to Montana in Week 1 despite the opposing QB attempting just seven passes.

South Dakota at Wisconsin, Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Wisconsin comes off a shaky 28-14 opening win over Western Michigan at home. The Badgers only managed 4.3 yards per rush and 5.3 yards per pass against a Broncos defense that finished 115th in points per drive defense last year. Beyond South Dakota – the seventh-ranked FCS team, per Bill Connelly's SP+ – Wisconsin hosts Alabama in the biggest non-conference game at Camp Randall Stadium perhaps ever. A line won't be hung here until late week, but it might be worth keeping an eye on South Dakota's number against an inconsistent Wisconsin offense looking head to Alabama.

Georgia Southern at Nevada, Saturday (7:00 p.m.)

Nobody ran more offensive plays last week than Georgia Southern (89). The Eagles defense was gashed and GASO ultimately lost 56-45, in 100º heat. Now, Georgia Southern packs up and travels three time zones backwards to visit a frisky Nevada team. In its first two games, the Wolfpack nearly won outright over SMU as +28 underdogs and did beat Troy as +7.5 'dogs. Nevada was a small +2 underdog on Monday.

Texas Tech at Washington State, Saturday (10:00 p.m.)

Texas Tech is dealing with cluster injuries on defense and travels to a known difficult spot to play in Pullman. The Red Raiders allowed over 600 yards to FCS Abilene Christian while Washington State hung 70 on 637 yards (12.3 YPP). Wazzu plays Washington next week, a potential lookahead spot, but Tech's defense potentially limps into this game seriously shorthanded.
