Georgia Vs. Notre Dame Odds
FanDuel Sportsbook released CFP hypothetical odds well ahead of the first-round matchups. It lined Georgia as a +1.5 underdog to Notre Dame with an over/under set at 46.5.
The biggest newsbreak of the postseason came just before Round 1 kicked off. Starting quarterback Carson Beck won’t play in this game after sustaining an upper-body injury in the SEC championship game against Texas. Beck didn’t finish that game, save for a final handoff in overtime. In his place, Gunner Stockton will start. Stockton went 12-for-16 with just 71 yards and an interception in SEC championship relief duty.
Many power ratings line Notre Dame as the No. 1 team in the nation, despite its early-season gaffe against NIU. Despite missing multiple key contributors — All-American corner Benjamin Morrison, top pass rusher Jordan Botelho, and two starting offensive linemen all suffered season-ending injuries — the Irish didn’t miss a beat. Without Beck in the lineup, Notre Dame’s not a surprising favorite in this game.
Expect strength-on-strength for this one, as Notre Dame fields one of the nation’s best rushing attacks. Running back Jeremiyah Love rushed for nearly 1,000 yards as a true sophomore this season (including a 98-yard TD scamper against Indiana) while QB Riley Leonard added over 700 of his own. However, that rushing attack will be put to the test in this one, as Georgia finished eighth in rush EPA allowed. Perhaps not as historically dominant as years past, Georgia still rosters a pair of All-American selections: linebacker Jalon Walker and safety Malaki Starks.
The winner of this game will advance to the Cotton Bowl to play the winner of Oregon vs. Ohio State or Tennessee.
