Arizona State vs. Texas Odds
FanDuel Sportsbook released CFP hypothetical odds well ahead of the first-round matchups. It lined Arizona State as a +13.5 underdog to Texas with an over/under set at 51.5.
Sportsbooks expect this to be the most lopsided matchup of the CFP thus far. Texas rolled its way over ACC champion Clemson to reach the Peach Bowl and, potentially, is a favorite to reach the national championship. The Horns flexed their muscles, scoring nearly at will on a talented Tigers defense. Texas rushed for nearly 300 yards and, aside from a first-half interception, played nearly flawless offensive football.
Arizona State stud running back Cam Skattebo faces his toughest challenge of the season against a Texas defense that ranks seventh in rush EPA allowed and that allowed a 100-yard rusher just once in SEC play (accrued in garbage time in a 49-17 blowout of Florida). Only one rusher found pay dirt more than once against the Horns: Georgia RB Trevor Etienne. Skattebo was last seen running through tacklers in the Big 12 championship, a game where he went for over 200 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.
If Skattebo can’t get going against this stout Texas defense, it’ll be up to Sam Leavitt to move the ball against by far the best defense he’s seen.
The winner of this game will advance to the Orange Bowl to play the winner of Boise State vs. Penn State.
