Boise State vs. Penn State Odds

FanDuel Sportsbook released CFP hypothetical odds well ahead of the first-round matchups. It lined Boise State as a +11.5 underdog to Penn State with an over/under set at 54.5.

Penn State looks to affirm that its path to the College Football Playoff semifinals was the most advantageous of any, lining as over a touchdown favorite in each of its first two CFP matchups. The Nittany Lions showed why they were so heavily favored, smothering SMU by a score of 38-10 in Round 1. Penn State’s sixth-ranked rush defense (EPA) will be put to its toughest test of the year against Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty (2,497 rushing yards, 29 TDs).

On the other side, Penn State has an opportunity to get its own ground game going once again. In the Big Ten championship, the Nittany Lions ran for nearly 300 yards. In Round 1, Penn State out-rushed SMU, 189-58. Boise State ranks 36th in rushing EPA allowed this year. However, it might not be the mismatch in the trenches many expect. Boise State rosters a sturdy defensive front, led by All-Mountain West selection Ahmed Hassanein and Jayden Virgin-Morgan off the edges. Hassanein is a legitimate NFL prospect and could disrupt Drew Allar all evening long.

Boise State did flash its potential against top-flite competition early in the season with a narrow 37-34 loss to No. 1 Oregon on a walk-off field goal.

The winner of this game will advance to the Orange Bowl to play the winner of Arizona State vs. Texas or Clemson.
