New Mexico ML (+102) vs Minnesota
🏈Odds via FanDuel📈
It's easy to assume that a Big Ten school is going to waltz all over a school like New Mexico in the Rate Bowl. But will it happen? Probably not.
We think Minnesota's 7-5 record is extremely fraudulent. They got slaughtered by the likes of Ohio State, Oregon, Iowa, and pretty much any halfway decent team. Heck, they lost by two touchdowns to Cal, a team that blew a three-touchdown lead to Hawaii the other night. They also barely beat Buffalo and the Big Ten bottom feeders.
Meanwhile, New Mexico made the most of a very difficult schedule. They played a very competitive game against Michigan, beat the brakes off of UCLA, and are riding high on a six-game winning streak. Had they not suffered a fluke loss to San Jose State halfway through the season, they'd probably be a ranked team and would have been in sniffing distance of the College Football Playoff.
We reckon that New Mexico are going to have a field day with Minnesota.
Central Michigan vs Northwestern -10.5 (-108)
🏈Odds via DraftKings 📈
In oddball bowl game matchups like this, we like to see if the two teams had any common opponents. It turns out, they both played Michigan this season. Northwestern lost by two, conceding a walk-off 31-yard field goal. The Chippewas lost 63-3.
While MAC teams generally have themselves a ball during bowl season, we absolutely cannot see Central Michigan winning the GameAbove Sports Bowl. Northwestern will bring plenty of effort and should smoke the Chippewas.
Florida International vs Texas-San Antonio -5.5 (-115)
🏈Odds via FanDuel📈
UTSA has a much better team, while FIU played one of the weakest schedules in the country and hobbled to a 7-5 record. In fact, FIU had a weaker strength of schedule than many FCS schools.
The Panthers were getting whipped by schools like UConn (51-10), Kennesaw State (45-26), and Delaware (38-16). While they're on a four-game winning streak, nobody will be applauding their wins over Middle Tennessee State, Liberty, Jacksonville State, and Sam Houston State.
Meanwhile, UTSA are a team that beat Tulane, who went to the College Football Playoff, by 22 points. They have one of the best offensive lines in the country, while FIU allow 2.87 yards before contact per rush, the third-worst rate in the country.
We'd be shocked if UTSA didn't walk all over FIU.
Anytime Touchdown Scorers
Damon Bankston Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+130)
🏈Odds via Caesars Sportsbook📈
Bankston put up nearly 1,000 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns for New Mexico this season, leading the team in both categories. He's influential in both the run game and the pass game, and has put up 100-yard games in both departments.
While New Mexico shuffles between three running backs, Bankston has been the most consistent one.
Caleb Komolafe Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-280)
🏈Odds via Caesars Sportsbook📈
Take the free money. Northwestern should absolutely steamroll Central Michigan, and Komolafe has been the focal point of their offense for some time now. Komolafe has scored in each of the last four games (five touchdowns), putting up well over 100 yards in three of those contests. In fact, Komolafe has only failed to put up a touchdown once over Northwestern's last nine games.
Griffin Wilde Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-114)
🏈Odds via Caesars Sportsbook📈
This one is pretty simple. We can't think about the Wildcats not blowing out Central Michigan, and we reckon that their number one wide receiver will find paydirt.
Player Props
Robert Henry 100+ Rushing Yards (+230)
🏈Odds via FanDuel📈
We cannot overstate how huge of a mismatch UTSA's offensive line is against FIU's defensive line. UTSA's 1,000-yard running back could go absolutely berserk and go over 175 yards, so make sure you put a sprinkle on that prop at +1280.
Will Henderson 100+ Rushing Yards (+400)
🏈Odds via FanDuel📈
UTSA's number two running back put up over 800 yards, running for 7.3 yards per carry. Somehow, he could eclipse that number today and go nuts in relief of Henry.
Caleb Komolafe 100+ Rushing Yards (+140)
🏈Odds via FanDuel📈
Having eclipsed the 100-yard mark in three of the last four games, Komolafe has an unbelievable chance to do it again against Central Michigan today. The only way this bet doesn't cash is if he gets benched after Northwestern blow them out in the first half.
