Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt Prediction, Odds & Picks for Nov. 5: Commodores Dominate At Home
The No. 24 Vanderbilt Commodores will host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Nashville, Tenn. Our Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt prediction covers odds, betting trends, and best bets for Thursday’s college basketball matchup.
The Demon Deacons started the season 1-0 against Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday. They’ve consistently been projected to finish outside the top 10 in the ACC this season.
The Commodores picked up an easy win over Bellarmine to start their season on Monday. They were projected to finish anywhere from second to seventh in the SEC throughout the offseason.

The Demon Deacons lost the majority of their roster from last season. Notable names, including Juke Harris and Myles Colvin, transferred out, while Isaac Carr is the only key returnee. They also added key pieces like Kevair Kennedy, Xander Pintelon, Justin Ray, and Jamari McDowell in the transfer portal. Wake Forest also brought in twin brothers, Gavin and Gallagher Placide, who will have major roles as freshmen. Here are some trends for Wake Forest:
- The Demon Deacons are 1-0 straight up and 0-1 ATS this season.
- The Over is 0-1 in Wake Forest games in 2026-27.
- The Demon Deacons failed to cover by 12.5 points against Maryland ES.
- The Under hit by half a point.
Kennedy, Gavin Placide, and Ray were the focal points of the rotation in Wake Forest’s first game. That was the case in their exhibition games, as well. The biggest on-court roles came from starter Xander Pintelon, along with Gallagher Placide and McDowell off the bench.
The Demon Deacons dominated Maryland ES at the rim, shooting nearly 70% from two-point range. They struggled from deep and at the line, though. Their defense also dominated at the rim, while struggling to guard beyond the arc.
Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Trends
The Commodores lost plenty of their rotation from last season, but they brought back star point guard Tyler Tanner and Chandler Bing. They also brought in other high-level transfers, including Ace Glass, Sebastian Williams-Adams, Berke Buyuktencel, Bangot Dak, and TO Barrett. Ant Brown and Jayden Leverett are also expected to play solid roles as young players. Here are some trends for Vanderbilt:
- The Commodores are 1-0 straight up and 1-0 ATS this season.
- The Over is 0-1 in Vanderbilt games in 2026-27.
- Vanderbilt beat the spread by 9.5 points against Bellarmine.
- The Under hit by 18.5 points.
Vanderbilt blew out Bellarmine in their first game, leaving their rotation fairly spread out. Tanner and Glass led the offense while on the floor, which was expected. Brown could be used to run the offense more than expected, while Williams-Adams dominated on the glass.
The Commodores looked good in most facets of the game, although they were loose with the ball. Bellarmine created 14 turnovers, although Tanner ended the game without any. This feels less like a true concern for this team and more like the result of several players handling the ball in an easy matchup. It’s something to monitor, though.
Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt Prediction: Vanderbilt Over 86.5 Points
Vanderbilt Over 86.5 points is my favorite Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt prediction.
The Demon Deacons and Commodores both pushed the pace in their first game of the season. Both teams pushed the pace offensively in 2025-26, suggesting that’s going to continue to be the case this season.
Tyler Tanner was one of the best offensive players in the country last season. He averaged 19.5 points and 5.1 assists in 33.1 minutes per game. He can score from anywhere on the floor, and his ability to lead the offense will be a key factor in Vanderbilt’s success.
Vanderbilt is an extremely deep team this season, featuring several high-end backups in both the backcourt and frontcourt. If one player struggles, they have enough depth to rely on other options and should be less vulnerable to foul trouble.
Best Bet: Vanderbilt Over 86.5 points (-120 @ DraftKings Sportsbook)
More Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt Picks, Props and Best Bets
Here are a few more Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt betting angles to consider:
- Vanderbilt -17.5 Spread (-108 @ DraftKings Sportsbook) - The Commodores feature an extremely deep team this season. They’re led by star point guard Tyler Tanner, who will be one of the best players in college basketball this season. They’ll also have the benefit of playing at home in their first true test.
- Wake Forest/Vanderbilt Over 155.5 Points (-105 @ DraftKings Sportsbook) - I already broke down Vanderbilt above, but this game should feature pace. Wake Forest isn’t likely to feature an elite offense, but they could create turnovers, leading to easy looks at the rim.
- Ace Glass Over 14.5 Points (+100 @ DraftKings Sportsbook) - Glass is a solid 3-point shooter, and he projects to lead Vanderbilt in 3-point attempts this season. Wake Forest struggled to defend the arc in their first game, which was an issue last season. That’s likely to carry over, and Glass should work as the secondary scorer in this offense.
