Indiana USC Odds

On Wednesday’s college basketball odds board, the USC Trojans (9-5, 1-2) travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face off against the Indiana Hoosiers (12-3, 3-1). The Hoosiers are Indiana Hoosiers -12 (-109) on BetRivers favorites against the spread, yet they’re on the outside of my college basketball power rankings. Let’s assess the odds for Indiana vs. USC, including same-game parlay options.

college basketball Pick: USC +7.5

Indiana has won four straight games and has garnered some attention in the Big Ten, which KenPom deems the second-best conference in the nation. Most notably, a knee injury to starting four-man Malik Reneau forced Hoosiers coach Mike Woodson to run a modern four-out offense, with Oumar Ballo manning the middle.

It’s paid dividends, as Indiana has tallied 1.11 points per possession (PPP) in the last two victories. One came versus Rutgers, missing star freshman Dylan Harper. Sunday’s win at Penn State was newsworthy, but the Hoosiers benefited from the Nittany Lions’ horrid shooting from behind the arc (14.3%) and the charity stripe (58.8%).

ShotQuality, an analytical resource designed to showcase the “quality” of attempts at both ends, graded it as a loss. However, the Hoosiers’ market rating has risen following their offensive surge, inflating this spread per my numbers.

The Handicap

There’s no telling how traveling 2,000 miles to the frigid Midwest will affect Eric Musselman’s unit. On paper, Josh Cohen and Rashaun Agee are serviceable low-post defenders, but stymying Ballo in a hostile road environment is another story. If they’re ineffective, the Hoosiers will find many open driving lanes and triples for budding sophomore Mackenzie Mgbako and 3-point maven Luke Goode.

Conversely, Woodson’s new-look lineup has struggled to defend the rim and mid-range, a byproduct of playing drop coverage with Ballo. USC is particularly efficient from the latter vicinity, with 6-foot-6 combo guard Desmond Claude settling in the 89th percentile (55%, via CBB Analytics).

In fact, Claude fouled out of Saturday’s loss to Michigan, likely costing the Trojans a cover. This line would’ve been shorter had the Xavier transfer finished the game.

The Trojans could also profit from Ballo’s spotty free-throw shooting (56.7%), especially if the spread comes down to the wire.

Final Thoughts

I expect USC to play competitively throughout and hang within a few possessions. Good or bad, I am transparent with my bets, which you’ll find in our sports betting Discord channel. Head to the #roles server to enroll in push notifications.

So far, I’ve gone 7-7 (+1.28 units) with my college basketball picks. Best of luck with your wagers on Indiana vs. USC odds!
